Knowing how we all like piccys, a couple of weeks back I decided it was time for my 1994 Defender 90 to celebrate his 20th birthday by moving on from the faded white with green algae highlights look!

For ease and cost went for synthetic paint and hamilton brushes - colour chosen RAL 7026 - Granite Grey (I wanted to strike a balance between green and grey, no idea why!)

Ideally would have replaced rear door, but for now repaired with Dinitrol Aluminium filler, inside tidied up with a black checker panel and swing away wheel carrier added.

Not a perfect finish but overall very pleased for the time and cost. Just waiting on delivery of black 8 spoke steel modulars now to finish the facelift.

That does look good- really smartens up the look of the landy :) Will the inside be getting the same treatment or leaving it white?

Cheers guys - has made a huge difference for not a lot of pennies

Painted the door insides the same as looked 'odd' when doors were opened

Footwells all Rustoleum satin black

Just inside of load space a rear bulkhead still white - leaving as is for now as with no rear windows thought the back might be (feel) a bit dark if painted granite grey

looks good have you done the spats the same colour?did on mine a year on and no flaking

I thought about it, but as I'm swapping out the original white steel wheels for black modulars I've left the eyebrows black for now

Good to know the paint hasn't flaked on yours if i change my mind

Your sign writing in the same colour as the body against white works well btw

Yeh! New Wheels arrived and fitted.

Amazing difference compared to the original white steels - only problem is I now have a longing for chunkier tyres that my cashflow will struggle with:eek:

Big thanks to my local ATS who changed and balanced the 5 tyres for beer money.

Cheers

All my paint comes from Autopaint St Helens- I live nowhere near but they've always been really helpful and quick to dispatch

You've done a great job of that, it's really transformed.
How many coats did you put on?

Thanks for that

Just primed where I needed to, flattened the rest and then just the one brush applied top coat

The synthetic paint covered really well (the white base might have helped) - it just takes a fair while to harden!

I bought 5 litres (like to be on the safe side and didn't know if it would need 2 coats) but only actually used about 2 litres

If i were ordering again, would order just 3 litres
