Has anyone experienced this? Sometimes heard inside the cabin but not really noticeable from the outside, almost sounds like a leaf or twig stuck in the heater fan but the noise is still there when the fan is switched off and the engine running.

3.9 auto Vogue SE 1991.

I've owned four Classics & never had a pump 'tick' unlike the old SU's (showing my age again) though my present one can make a slight noise, only hear outside the car, when the engine is idling but the sound has been there for several thousand miles & the engine hasn't missed a beat ... so far.

I have had this on mine as well, it was the trip meter at max and needing to be reset back to 00000 by pressing the button. It just clicks away until you click where it is coming from.:)
Might be the problem.;)

But then the car would have to be moving, I thought the OP inferred the sound was audible just when the engine was running.
Can't comment on the ABS theory as mine doesn't have such complications ;)
