Hi Danny just noticed your in Merseyside .. your on my doorstep mate if it turns out to be the head gasket ill give you a hand ive got all the tools. Its a job ive done a couple of times myself ☺ hope you got plenty of biccies though

I have changed the vacuum pump and fuel pump today and it's still doing it I have videoed it and will upload to YouTube. And that would be great rusty PM me where abouts you are.

Yep check for loose bolts on EVERYTHING, mine developed a metallic rattle which could of been diagnosed as any one of many expensive probs and was just a down pipe bolt worked loose and vibrated and spun at certain revs!

I know What you mean but this doesn't do it all the time that's what is bugging me I have a suspicion that it's the injector pump really hope not.

I think it is most likely the fuel injector pump as I have been feeling around everything and when the noise comes the fuel injector pipes get alot of vibration threw them then calm down again when noise goes.

Definitely not the same ticking I had when the head gasket blew. No idea what that is though pm'd you my location and number in case you get stuck or need a hand cheers

Cheers rusty hope I just get it sorted soon it is doing my head in. You don't know how to change the fuel injector pumps over and time them back up again by any chance? Incase it is that.

I have checked today with my father in laws 300tdi disco and his fuel injector pump pipes is so smooth no vibration at all. mine feel that they are getting rattled and vibrate madly so think I need to find someone who can do it for me so any recommendations would be good.

Are your injector pipes clamped together?

Don't know about the 300, but earlier engines have the injector pipes clamped with special rubber lined metal clamps in a couple of places. Stops them rattling against each other and breaking.
