Hi everyone. I have developed a ticking noise under the bonnet I think on drivers side but unsure. Now it doesn't do it all the time so one minute it is doing the next nothing it doesn't do it when you are on tick over I have changed the fuel filter and put wynns injector cleaner in case it was a dirty injector. Could it be the vacuum pump any suggestions welcome thanks.

Will try the lift pump I only changed that 1 year ago but like anything these days parts don't last.

Get a short length of hose pipe and stick one end to your ear, and the other to the suspect areas. You will soon narrow it down.

EDIT: I just need a volunteer to stand on my bumper and do this for me whilst I drive at 20-30mph to find out where the rattle is coming from on mine.

I had a visit to my local lr garage and he said it could be the injector pump but is a bit strange that it comes and goes even when driving and advised me to empty my tank as I have been using vegy oil and put some diesel in with injector cleaner. So I have done that and am awaiting to see if it comes back. He also felt the lift pump and vacuum pump and said there was no vibration coming from them and also said it's not engine noise.

Mine ticked for months couldnt find it .... Then the head gasket went between number 4 cylinder and the last push rod tube. New headgasket and no more ticking .......

Was your ticking there all the time or on and off as mine doesn't make a noise all the time.

Is it an easy job to change the cylinder head or would it be better to get someone else to do it or would I pay a fortune to get it done.

I guess I will need some special tools like torque wrench etc roughly how much would an average garage cost or I could plead with someone on here for beer tokens :D.

You've got to eliminate the small stuff before leaping to the head gasket. Personally I would not even think head gasket unless there was at least one other indication, for example, exhaust gasses in coolant, oil in coolant, coolant in sump, white smoke from exhaust, reduced power, chuffing, coolant or oil weeping from gasket -etc.

I had no other indication .....just the ticking... as the gasket went between cylinder and push rod tube there isnt any cross contamination of oil and water.... worth checking to see if theres any pressure in the rocker box but then I didnt have any untill the day the gasket failed . Still worth checking everything else first. head gasket would be the last place to look. Just letting you know what it was with mine ... worth also checking exhaust manifold gasket i believe that can split across a port causing a ticking
