Check your suspension components

Anti roll bar bushes, track rod ends and such like.

(Least I said hello!)

warpped disc maybe. Also make sure that the clips are still in the end of the pad retainer pins.

lol is there any play in the steering at all, these's acouple of things that could cause it.
As a side note pop a post in the introduction thread, stops you getting flamed lol. Welcome to the site, nice thick skin and you will do well

sorry all Hello
just in a panic as only had it a month and had alot of work done on it so was a bit miffed at this knocking baning thump what ever it is, its not there all the time and only does it on braking, does not do it when u pump them only on moving and braking.

thanks for tips and will give my machanic a call to check it over :)

I second all that the above have said - intro , bushes , disc/caliper deform/secure .

The intro part is pure self defense , trust me !

But clips...all round ? Does not the D1 in its 300 form , V8 or not , just have rear clips and just pins and springs on the front ?

hi all thanks for all yr replys had to call RAC out on way to work, my front caliper was hanging on by 1 bolt and has ground my alloy wheel so lucky escape. all fixed and back on road with no bangs bumps and thumps lol :)

hi shocker yes but no machanic, so thought u may all know what i ment by new retaining kit for front and rear. no doubt there will b alot more go wrong with it before the year is out lol after all it is a disco

I sorry I did not pick up your problem earlier as I knew what your banging was. I experienced this same problem when towing my sons van out of a snow drift. I assume the cold and the sudden braking snap a caliper bolt, so when you use the brakes if its the rear bolt that gone the caliper rises up with the rotation of the disk and hit the inside of the wheel. These bolts are fine thread metric and difficult to get hold of during the long Chritmas break. By from Paddock as they are much cheaper than the main dealers who quoted £7.00 each with a three day delay

front calipers on a 300 have two pins with clips on the end, and then on the rear there is just 2 split pins either side. Really luck on the caliper thou pal. could have been nasty

Argh I've just noticed this very problem on my '93.. Clunking drivers side front when brakes applied (only moving, and only clunk if brake pedal depressed from the fully open position)

Had a little feel around wiggling the old girl back and forward on her handbrake and it feels like the propshaft is banging on the diff or something like that. BUT I shall now check the driver side front caliper through fear of death!

yep worth a look, i was very lucky as had my baby in car to so good job i was driving slow as was stuck in traffic and as i braked for the island thats when bolt must of come out as noise and feel was very scarey and my poor alloy has had a right grinding, but all fixed in seconds and safe again :)

How badly damaged is the alloy? Might be worth considering replacing it...

well would u belive it, caliper bolt came out again today, luckly i reconised the thumping noise and took it straight to garage for them to look at it to c why it keeps coming out, bloody car is doing nothing but costing me money so far :( always the way if i like a car it causes me problems if i hate the thing it goes on forever. :/

wish i'd seen this before as that was what i was going to add! had same thing happen to me. luckily i found out what it was very quickly. still had to drive to a dealers for one bolt. Glad your okay after that, couldve been nasty.

Make sure they put loctite on it.
