Morning all, have just brought the disco in to work for it's first frosty run since ownership. Coming off the dual carriageway near work I noticed it was idling very high, so much so that it would drive forwards unless using heavy foot on the brake.
At first I thought maybe it was due to complex electrickary of some sorts (EDC temperature sensor increasing idle to prevent stalling) but when putting it into P during 3 point turn it was really screaming.
Shall investigate further this afternoon, although not going to have long in work before I need to drive home.
First port of call kick-down cable??
 
It's the throttle position sensor mate.....or potentiometer..that's what they call them....and can also be a combination of a few other sensors...

Reason.......potentiometer reading inaccurate, hence ECU gets itself into safe mode

Symptoms.......engine will rev higher (limp mode) occasionally. It will get worse over time as the faulty potentiometer may caused engine to be running at high rev (2000 & climbing) all the time...also, it will become difficult to start in the morning (1st start up of the day)

Solution.........plug in OBDII diagnostic tool into slot under dash to check readings on various sensors, then replace the faulty ones.....OR.....ditch the whole EDC system and go for a mechanical injection pump (just did mine, and am sorting out a few smaller thing such as bracket for kick down cable and a few electronic gremlins....
 
Balls, where does that sensor go?
Thought it was the one in bellhousing for a sec, if I have to remove gearbox again that'll just about finish me off!!!
The accelerator pedal did feel like it was catching when I parked up this morning so shall check that first, fingers crossed it's a quick/easy/cheap fix!

actually just remembered I seen that switch before attached to the pedal, hope that's not the problem as it looks a bitch to get to..
 
that's the exact 'switch' at the pedal......a bitch to get to and bloody expensive to replace too.....hence I've decided to ditch the whole electronic injection system....
 
Thanks for your replys, it seems my panic is over.
The cable stop connected to end of accelerator pedal is catching on the plastic side panel trim. Nothing that can't be sorted in 2mins with a grinder :) :D


So it can't be fly-by-wire surely, if the accelerator pedal has a cable?

edc equipped disco has a cable that runs from pedal to a bracket just above injection pump to operate the autobox kickdown.....and the fly by wire is operated through the potentiometer....
 
Just for reference, I had a sticky throttle on my 200 V8 once.

Reasonably quickly I found it was the pedal that had got wet and started seizing.

Slackened the pedal pivot bolt slightly, and hey presto.

mine was very creaky but seem to have sorted it with a squiz of silicone spray
