Seems to be missing, or atleast the throttle doesn't return after pressing the peddle. I've looked at a few pics on line but can't work out what I'm missing.

I have the normal throttle cable then another cable (disconnected) that runs vertically down the back of the block that I thought odd.

I can't help u if you can't work out what's missing, but there are two springs used on the throttle linkage ones round the other is straight.
The second cable from the throttle linkage will be the kick-down cable linking to an automatic gearbox. Simples.

Thanks discool. I'll take a pic tonight. The cable for the kickdown is disconnected both ends... it's an auto box

I concur 19 is in place and the metal throttle linkage does spring back. However it only goes half way back when pressing the pedal and releasing. like the cable is not free moving in its sleeve.

Ive taken a picture but its not very good in the dark.

What are repercussions of having the kickdown disconnected... other than it wouldn't kick down under had acceleration? I presume it would still change down prior to stalling?

Well first impression: the linkage could do with a clean and then relubricate ;)
So why not remove the clevis pin and raise the throttle cable and start spraying oil down the inside for a minute or two, then hang it up for a couple of hours, a lump of rag at the other end of the cable will also be handy.

No kick-down cable means just that no kick-down function I would think... as for me the cable has aways been fitted.:)

Sorry Discool, I should have said this is my challenge buggy purchase so the thing is filthy with mud. Ill do as you suggest. Ill come back to the kick down cable once i can get the thing running.

Thanks for the help

Just to rule out the obvious, is the accelerator pedal free moving? Also where the cable goes into the cabin is it catching on anything there? another possibility - is the butterfly intake the issue? Have you pulled the linkage to watch what's going on?

linkage functions fine when moved with my hand. it just doesnt go all the way back after using the pedal. the pedal seems to return fine. so as discool says, its probably lack of oil in the sleeve but ill check for snags as you suggest dave.

Of course it is :D

To tell u the truth in didn't connect you're two threads :(

On the kick down cable, I've been playing with mine for a little while now. I have the ZF 4HP22 box fitted.

The kick down cable not only changes gear when the accelerator is fully depressed but it also seems to change the point at which the gears change in relation to how far the throttle is depressed.

So disconnected has the gearbox changing gear early and over tight connection has the kick down always engaged and late gear changes.

Changing the length adjustment moves the point at which gears are changed, so I have played with mine so that it changes quite late but the kickdown is not always deployed.

Hope at least some of this is accurate and makes sense :)

Yes it does a little rob. I watched a video on youtube of a bloke changing it and setting it up. Must have been ok for the previous owner to leave it disconnected. On with the next problem :)
