Any ideas as to how i can stop her revving slowly down to idle after taking my foot off the throttle, as apposed to going straight back to idle how it should? raised the idle speed the other day then she started doing it.

i had a load of crap in my throttle cable which made mine do that...either replace it or soak it in doozel overnight !

yeh had a look at that, when you move it arround under the bonnet it snaps back straight away and still revvs. when left for a bit (30 seconds or so) it does return to idle.

i might be being really f***ing dense but, how is it the cable if i move it without touching the cable and it still does it?

when you move the throttle from the injector pump it snaps straight back yes ? or does it slowly move back without touching the pedal...if its slow from the ip end i'd be looking at your spring and some wd40

no, basically from on top of the injector pump it snaps back as it did when it worked fine, but it still revvs, despite being in the idle position, so between the pump and the pedal it works fine, but you may be right about a spring somewhere, shall take a look. any chance it could be a problem with the pump? cheers

ok mate trust me on this as mine did egg zacchery the same...reved up fine and took an eternity to return to normal revs....and when you operate the throttle from the engine it snaps back real quick.. sounds to me like the throttle cable but i could be wrong..a decent squirt around the engine bay with wd40 might help !

You MUST NOT use the throttle cable as the adjuster for slow running in these engines.

There is a separate little lever for slow running, which leans on the fuel return outlet pipe stub.

The throttle cable and linkage must have a little slack in it when your foot is off the pedal, and at that stage the main throttle will be allowing ZERO fuel delivery, and it will stay that way until the speed drops far enough for the SLOW RUNNING GOVERNOR to take over and hold the slow running speed.

If you use the main throttle lever as the slow running controller, there will be all sorts of problems, including ....

Cold start system DISABLED, and potential starting trouble.
Engine BRAKING very poor.
Engine takes too long to slow down.
and so on.

Set it up properly.
1. adjust throttle cable till there is some slack in it.
2. adjust slow running speed by using the adjusable screw on the little lever at the fuel return pipe stub.

Injection pumps need to be setup correctly don't go messing if your not ofay with how it all works. Charlsy, is spot on. I have mounted a hand throttle for raising the revs when winching but only when stationary. A mate of mine did what you did for trialling but it was terrible no engine braking and bloody dangerious when he decided to go off the edge of a serious slope. Jai

That's very interesting doing a hand throttle for winching.
Once you've got the girl in the back seat it's hard to reach the throttle!

But I think if you rigged a way to increase the TICKOVER speed by bringing its lever end away from the stop, you would find it holds a very steady speed, even when the load varied, and possibly up to nearly 1500 rpm, maybe even more.

I used to slip a small piece of wood (a matchstick is good) into mine to hold the tickover speed up, like for jump starting, and things that need some more revs.
