I took Norbert in to the garage on Thursday am for them to investigate why the lights were on, to seal the ruddy sunroof and to investigate a 'noise'. Turns out the 'noise' was a wheel bearing that was so lose it was virtually off.... This had knocked the ABS sensor on that front tyre. Also had a TC sensor play up behind, so 2 new ones there too. I'm wondering if this (the wheel bearing going) was the intermittent juddering I could feel through the steering wheel when braking over 45mph? I will of course ask when I go to pick Norbert up later, just thought I'd ask you guys too :)
 
When mine went it was the noise more than anything that brought it to my attention. It was well knackered but not enough to get the 3 amigos up :)
 
LOL! I've had bearings go on a 205 and that was a very different noise and mainly when turning the wheel, more of a knocking. This noise was an intermittent ringing/jingling noise or a rubbing/squeaking noise. The noise only started on Monday and I'd already had it booked in for Thursday. The 3 amigos have been glowing since about Dec 28th - this was the soonest the garage could book me in and let me have a courtesy car.
 
Had three bearings go on my 2001 TD5 - each time I got the three Amigo's and on the front bearing had intermittent wheel wobble under breaking - but usually at low speeds. Only needed to change the hubs though - the sensors were fine.
 
Also had a TC sensor play up behind, so 2 new ones there too.

As far as I was aware there are only ABS sensors, so not sure what they mean when they said a TC sensor as well as replacing the ABS one. Did they elaborate?

Or have I completely missed something and am just being stupid?

Huh, in that case I've had a wheel bearing problem since I towed back from Cornwall in late October... Odd how that was the only symptom though...

I am sure that's what he said on the phone... He def said TC, though might not have said sensor :eek: (could have sworn he did, but I was just hearing £££'s tbh). Norbert is still in the garage as they were sent the wrong bearings on Sat, so I'm still driving the KA, which is like riding a polo pony, having been on a Destrier! Hopefully will have him back tomorrow night - I will ask exactly what they've done, will be on the invoice anyway.

Computers in cars should be banned!

Everything is fixed, except the 3 amigos are still on! So it's fixed up to the computer again and they're trying to work out what else is wrong! Grrrrr Nothing is ever ruddy simple!
 
traction control, hill decent ,and abs all work off same sensors ,valve block etc ,they just measure speed and operation of drive shaft and computer works out whether to apply brake or release it ,air gap is critical and worn brg allows this gap between sensor and shaft to vary giving fault
 
I'm just frustrated! I can't fix it myself, I wouldn't know where to start, but it seems that it doesn't want to be fixed - mind of it's own! Horses are easier...
 
Hmmmm well, still not fixed. Apparently there is a part that sits behind the ABS sensor that they couldn't get hold of today, that will be in tomorrow. Will cost £35. If it's not that, it's the computer..... Hence why I have forgotten the name of the part they are going to try tomorrow for £35.... I am just seeing ££££'s now and am :(:(:(
 
Is the garage a LR main dealer, independant with LR diagnostics or some bloke with a spanner? It would really help to have it code read with LR diagnostics. Seems to me that most amigo issues come back to electrical failure related to SVS switch.
 
Apparently there is a part that sits behind the ABS sensor

I have changed both front sensors on my car in the last 18 months, and nether of them has anything behind it.... The sensor fits directly into the front hub. Not done the rear ones, but doubt they are very different.

The only possible thing I can think of behind the sensor might be one of the bits of metal that the wire clips into, but thats a bit unlikely.

If its the shuttle valve switch repair kit for the modulator block then fair enough - that should log its own code.Other than that they are guessing,just make sure its not at your expense.DII's have been around long enough that anyone half decent will know how to fix them,or know who to ask.
 
I'll ring him in the am.... It's all going over my head tbh! I almost feel like it's coz I'm a woman... Mind you I feel that way quite often when it comes to garages...
 
I was under the impression that hub bearings on a D2 were not serviceable, that you had to change the whole hub and an ABS sensor was included or have I been misled?
 
That used to be the case. But they did a service bulletin some time ago making them a replacement item. That pic I posted was from that bulletin.

I'm on my phone at the moment not my computer but can upload it if you want it.

I think that's what he said he ended up doing, when he saw that the bearing was fooked!

Oh and it wasn't rear TC sensors, it was suspension sensors that were replaced.
