I try very hard not to think about Evoques, actually.... but like everybody else, I have an opinion... and the other thing too.
If they'd named it ANYTHING else, I'd probably be quite enthusiastic about the Evoque, warts and all, but here is something which wears a badge it doesn't have a hope in hill of living up to. The Velar is another one. You can put all the badge you want on it, put all the gee-whiz software in it, give them fancy off-roady sounding names....... but it is still a sheep in wolf's clothing and owners of real Range Rovers won't hesitate to let you know it- as the feedback on here has already shown.
IF you WANT an Evoque and don't give a hoot what other people think then go for it and more power to you- I seem to recall that the OTHER thing they have in common with Range Rovers other than the badge, is the reliability and build quality, or rather, the lack thereof. If you want a Range Rover, then the Evoque will disappoint- rather like if Ferrari made a 1 litre 4 cylinder 5 door hatchback, gave it a fancy Ferrari name but didn't give it the Ferrari performance to back it up would disappoint. If you're looking for whatever status that may attach to the badge on the car, then well... as you've seen from Range Rover owners here, you won't get it from an Evoque.
If you want a crossover SUV, there's TONS of better alternatives on the market. I'm particularly impressed with the Subaru Forester which I owned for close on 5 years which can be had for a fraction of the cost of an Evoque and is better across the board except maybe for the interior design.... and heck... the exterior design, come to that. There's also the Freelander to consider, which doesn't have the pretender wannabe stigma attached to it.
Over to you, man...... I think so long as you buy what YOU WANT, and can live with that decision, you'll be ok no matter what the rest of us think.
