I was 16 and it was a Stage One...
I think the words were, 'careful with the throttle on the crest...' it was like saying 'don't press the red button...'
 :D:D:D:D:D

It was a 1964 88" Station Wagon 2.25 petrol.
I was thinking "I wish my mates could see me now - how jealous would they be!"
I was 10 years old.

Driving a 1965 2a about 18 years ago........"this steerings stiff...and these brakes are never right".......still saying it now in my restored series 3, 109.

1968 pickup
1.if I turn the key any harder it will snap off (it didnt that time)
2. Is the steering meant to be like that
3. OMG how are you meant to get out of my drive with this turning circle
4. I thought it had half a tank of petrol
5, whoa! I dont need to give way at roundabouts

Showing how old I am now.
1968 2A SWB petrol rag top with 13,000 mls on the clock, drove it off-road across a railway cutting and was hooked.

First time i 'drove' a land was sat on my dads knee with control of the steering wheel and him doing pedals on a stubble field. Felt like the boss and was probably around 7 at the time. First time i properly drove one was my brothers 110 when he had it and loved it but had some difficulty finding 1st and reverse confused by the weight on the clutch compared to my golf, why does it have the turning circle of a artic, how are the breaks this bad and then someone tried to cut in on me at a round about.....he didn't have a chance :fencing: just a constant grin on my face and the same now.

First drive was nearly 4 years ago with my first freelander.
Thoughts of how high it sat compaired to my clio, how it had a bit of power and how it handled a bit differently.
Also, why after a few miles did my left leg feel really warm and how my mates are going to hate me having this at 21.

First 2.5 na 90 ok this is slow, how much play in the steering? And why won't you go in a strate line you ba******. Freelander is that smoke I smell. Discovery oooo me like.
Range rover to posh for my likening

1997 Defender 90 4 years ago
Love at first drive, got under my skin straight away and has stayed there since.

first drive of a range rover on my own i was 7 years old and knew why my grandad loved them so much and realised that i should only ever drive a land rover and for most of my life i have driven land rovers with the odd pocket rocket for a month or 2

Land rover 110 around 2 years ago. Oh my god this is awsome,i need one, wheres reverse?!?!?!? This is the car i want no wait i Need this. Hopefully get my own landrover this year fingers crossed

early 80`s I was a mobile mechanic,
one family cars I looked after was a series 3 (a)?
bright yellow short wheelbase petrol.
I knew it inside out after a while.
its owner wanted to use my volvo estate one weekend,so left me the use of the yellow landie to tow my trailor with banger & tools/wheels & stuff all in/on it.
to be honest I did`nt like the feeling of the steering wheel in my belly,
nor it being juicy and slow, but made towing all that weight behind me so - so easy in the very muddy pits....

finished with all that mobile mechanics (and racing) in mid to late 80`s when I started to drive cabs (taxis)

fast forewards to 3 years ago, and a mate here on the coast was letting go of his faithfull disco 200tdi,
but he still kept his old series diesel.

so my first thoughts after about 30 years inbetween were,
oops, bounces around a bit through the lanes, is it the steering or the shocks?
what gear lever do I use, the last one driven had 3, why just 2?

I spent 3 months under my disco 2 years ago doing "welding"
I jet wash underneath reguarly, done it yesterday again, and just check for the leaks and stuff.
(parking in the same spot marks out your leaks!)
my disco has its faults, but I can just get in it and go anywhere with ease.
I am diebetic and am waiting for a new right knee,
but find the disco easier to drive than my daughters KA
(I cant feel the pedals in a KA) - a discos pedals are just "there"

Its black, shiney, and my "only driver" and I cover the windows in this nice sun we got, as it turns into an oven quickly when parked up.

I even showed it in a recient classic vehicle show a few weeks ago,
as my entry was not ready to show!

sorry for the l o n g story,
but "thoughts you had during yours first drive" etc.....

No 2 landies are the same,
mine is now part of me...lol

at nigh on 65 years of age, I can do just what I want, drive/ride just what I want,
but my disco is MINE.....lol

first drive of a Landie was my brothers Series 2 ex mil, he'd left me with the keys to start it and keep it running to charge the battery.

as it was on the lane at the bottom of our garden i decided this would be a good time to have a quick spin in it.
after half an hour driving it up and down the lane i performed a bad 3 point turn which resulted in me reversing the shiny green machine down an embankment and into a tree.

i abandoned it and caught the bus up to my sisters and stayed there for a couple of days or i'dve got a proper pasting.

we often laugh about it now but if he'd caught me that night i'm sure I would've got what i deserved.

his mate had to tow him out with a p4 3500

as for the drive it was brilliant....apart from the last bit:eek:

oh and i was 14 at the time

Aged 17, bought a 109 ex MOD, £500!. My first thoughts when driving it home (in the rain) "why is it wet inside as well as out?"

First drive was when about 15 in an old orignal D reg 90 belonging to a local farmer. Three 'gear levers'- low/high, 4 wheel drive, 'normal'. Enny, meeny, miny, mo.

  • mint! I helped build this! *stomp accelerator* PPPOOOOWWWWWWEEEEERRRRR! - after trailing in me mates 80 coiler V8
  • oh chirst, I just spent over a grand on a bucket of bolts! - after buying me BB
  • F*@k me! it actually Passed its MOT and is working! - after putting in 9 hours of wiring
  • "Paaarrrrrrp!"....new underwear needed I think - after experiencing the most Horrendous wheel wobble at 60mph on the M62
  • this is gonna be expensive!....huh, maybe not! - after snapping and fixing the CV joint
but every time I drive it, I think: this thing is awesome, and I don't care if it smells of oil!

1988 - **** these sirens are loud, I can't hear the engine - but at least people are getting out of the way !!!!:crazy_driver:
