Ok replaced all cooling system including radiator pipes, cap etc and the pump/thermostat are genuine. I've fully drained and flushed out the cooling system ran it for 10 minutes with water flushing through refilled and travelled 6 miles for the first time in as many weeks with no overheating....yippee!! If only it was so simple. I left it to cool for a few hours then went back to check the fluid level.....hoses solid - on opening the cap water gushed out...seems my baby continues to pressurise or should it be like that?

Does anyone have any ideas? Do land rover do deals on boxes of matches and a gallon of petrol? This P38 has had more new parts than any other car I've ever owned...help please!!

It shouldn't gush out after it has cooled....

There could be a small hiss when cool, not a gush....if it is over pressure, this could indicate the cap isn't releiving any over pressure....

Check the Expansion tank overflow isn't blocked too.....

Get the system static pressure checked to rule out head problems....you can then focus on other areas of the cooling system....if it didn't overheat or runn lumpyish...my bet is on duff expansion cap....

Yeh sorry it's a diesel. Spoke to the garage who did the exchange today and they are going to have a look. Interesting when it came back last time it's stuck in sports mode changing gear at 3000 revs plus. Tried to move to low box and back etc and no difference. Real frustrating!

Check/Replace the cap on the expansion tank and also the breather pipe coming from rad into tank. If it keeps pressurizing the hoses after that, prepare for the worse... I had the same symptoms and it was the head gasket that had gone.

I had the same and it was the head. Didnt overheat either.
The previous owner used some sort of silicone to close the cracks in the head.
My mechanic was amazed on how i did 6k miles with that.
