In the kit car world blokes often find their wives, if they choose to help them build their creations, are often very good at the wiring.
As well as upholstery, soft tops, tonneau covers, carpets etc.
Maybe it is like knitting for them!
Or perhaps they just have more patience!!;)
 
Looking back at your pics, looks like it goes into the relay on the bulkhead which is the glow plug relay. Can you test this wire with a electrical tester?

I wouldn't let my wife anywhere near wiring, end up in a ball of fire lol

I checked it this morning, I have continuity from the free end to the brown wire in the relay plug. I would assume , based on the wiring diagram you copied earlier this indeed on of the brown wires to the solenoid.

Went to bleed the brakes this afternoon as all the panels are off for final paint prep, more leaks than a Welsh allotment- methinks wrong fittings
 
Just looked at the haines manual wiring diagram (I have nothing else to do lol), View attachment 271058
(n = brown colour)
Looks like brown is always live ( think white is switched), diagram shows there are 2 wires from starter to alternator, not sure why. That wire of yours is from either-
Fuse box
Starter relay
Ignition switch
I know these wiring diagrams arn't the best, this diagram is models 1991-1994
Some A127 alternators had two charge wires, later cars went to one fatter wire with a ring terminal
It is all about amps, the yellow spade terminals are capable of carrying aprox 35a each

The wire on the alternator is much larger than this “unknown” one which makes me think it is connected to the solenoid and it is from the start relay.

Well that should be easy enough to check with a meter or a test light.
 
Moving on from the brown wire, which is now connected the the solenoid.

A white and orange one has appeared unmarked, a bullet connection but its connection is unknown

looking through the wiring diagram I can’t see what it is and there is no obvious connection in the engine bay. Unless it is to be connected to the random wire colours for the fuel pump or the oil Pressure switch, although the later I believe has been identified.

any ideas chaps?
