The M57 can be fitted to the P38 along with the HP24 box. I do not see the point of an 8 speed box when there is a torque converter effectively giving variable ratios.Well, I watched it. Not a bad vid, Jeremy I like, Harry errr.. Not as much.
Awkward conversation at times but I could listen to Jeremy all evening, the fact he doesn't know one door handle to another is an amazing contrast to his TV job.
Hmmmm, l322 or P38??? Maybe a later l322 but I'm not a fan of multi link suspension and fantastically complicated electrics....
If I could have the td6, programmed and mated to an 8 speed box with live axles in the 38' I'd be an even happier bunny.
If I could have it all, that would be it.. Since I couldn't justify the expense I'll stick with my old busThe M57 can be fitted to the P38 along with the HP24 box. I do not see the point of an 8 speed box when there is a torque converter effectively giving variable ratios.
Just out of interest for when my GM five speed box eventually self destructs, do you think it would be posssile to 'retrofit' an HP24 to the M57 engine we have in our 2006 L322 3.0 diesel as a replcement for the GM?The M57 can be fitted to the P38 along with the HP24 box. You could upwards to a zf6 if your getting into that the only issue is ecus but there is a standalone gearbox ecu that can be used somehow with an existing system to control the g/box. Not cheap I would imagine but actually programmable as well. An HP24 from a P38 diesel along with it's ECU could certainly be done if you can sort out the electrical connections needed which are few. Leave the GM box ECU in place to fool the car electronics.Just out of interest for when my GM five speed box eventually self destructs, do you think it would be posssile to 'retrofit' an HP24 to the M57 engine we have in our 2006 L322 3.0 diesel as a replcement for the GM?

Totally agree there. I don’t do much as save each month but have couple of grand always available just incase.., there’s a massive amount to go wrong on new stuff, least with our older ones there still relatively simple, and even with an issue can normally be limped home.We are off to Normandy in a fortnight and have taken out extra breakdown insurance including unlimited 'repatriation' just in case the old girl decides to have a hissy...like many have suggested on Landy Zone before, I put a few quid by each month to cover the inevitable cost of large jobs. Currently £150 per month in anticipation of eventually needing a new box. People might say just get another L322, but it doesn't work that way does it? You become emotinally attached to your vehicle and all sense of logic tends to go out off the window. Where we live there are a ridiculous amount of 'flash' new RR's but few if any have the presence of our one and many cost over 20 times as much! Of course the constant threat of failure can be troublesome, but if you have an engineering understanding there is'nt much to fear, except the odd massive bill!
