I just pulled the air ducting hose off and had a look at the sensor it was still connected so i tried to jump the starter motor with jumper leads, i connected the jumper leads to the main red terminal on the starter and hooked it up to the battery and nothing
 
I jumped the little flat pin with a screw driver and my fuse box under the bonnet made a squeel noise

Shop wants $240 to rebuild my starter that is to much, what year models fit my car?
 
Done some searching and found out its a common problem on the LR's the starter solenoids fail, i looked one up they are everywhere on ebay for a TD5 but none for a Freelander L series so i done some more searching and found they use the same parts as the TD5, parts ordered from ebay and are on there way
 
This is ridiculous i dont know if this land rover is jinxed or cursed, i looked for the closes ebay seller to my which is in Sydney, Australia i am also in Sydney its not a very large city and usually next day delivery, well according to my tracking the starter repair kit has been sent from Sydney to Tamworth around 5 hours away in the country

My cousin told me fix it and get rid of it

Fixing this car has been an absolute 2-3 month ordeal u could call a nightmare....
 
Well i installed the starter kit today and same problem, if i hook up jumper cables from the battery to the starter motor than bridge the little tab the engine cranks over

i just tried another battery and nothing happened same problem, can someone tell me which one is the starter motor relay? all there is are pictures of poor illistrations of what those relays are for and i cannot work out ass from tit to big toe...
 
Ok for a final post on this subject the car is now finally done and she starts up strait away the problem was 2 people pulling the car apart and 2 months between pulling it apart and putting it back together my cousin removed the engine mount and starter motor and he also reinstalled both, there is a earth cable running down under the battery bay my cousin thought went to the 2 metal hoses that run over the top of the gearbox but i just worked out right now that cable was meant to be bolted to the engine mount so all along i had no good earth

i just relocated the earth cable and the car started up its a little louder than a petrol car is this meant to be right? the knock knock knock from the diesel sounds a little loud at 7am

I just got all my lights working surprizingly someone had moreved half of the globes and didn't bother replacing them so i took some out of my trailer, i tested the clutch in the driveway and it worked for 1st and reverse however the clutch bites just off the floor but i'm sure i can live with that

going to take it for road registration later today (its what u guys call a MOT) so i will give it a nice little run to the mechanics and back will let you all know how the clutch goes
 
Just about in tears i just tried driving the car and nothing has changed it still wont change gears after all this work, what do i do now?
 
The last seller left a brand new slave mount in the boot to tonight armed with a torch i rolled under the car and seen my old modified slave mount was bent on one side by around 2 to 3mm so i put the new mount on and took her for a drive no MOT yet and the cops grabbed me 300 meters from my house i just explained i was testing the car out as we just fixed it i explained it was out of registration for 1.5 to 2 months and he asked if i was parking it up i said yes and drove home thankful no fine as a fine here is about $2000

the car drove really well its a bit sluggish on the throttle i am used to the petrol Xtrail but i can now say the car is 100 percent fixed and boy what a bloody rollor coaster ride it was lol i am not good at trouble shooting
 
LOL, you have had some fun with that car, glad to hear it is going well. The slave mount is a common issue with K and L series when the release arm gets sticky. A drop of oil every time you service the car keeps it free.
Yes the L series is very sluggish stock but I believe it can be perked up quite a bit with a very simple mod. there are a few threads here about it but here is one of them.

So glad the cops didn't fine me they drove off and into my street to make sure i was going home lol when i mentioned the car feels sluggish i meant there is a lot of nothing in the throttle peddle it goes over 50 percent down before it actually starts to rev the engine where as the xtrail is power strait on the peddle

I'll grab a spare slave bracket and keep it in the boot of the car i have a spare plastic C clip for the salve cylinder

Does the L series use a cable to the throttle? I know the K series does and it needs to be a little slack to avoid issues with the hill descent. If it does maybe it's too slack and a bit of adjustment will sort it..
 
To be honest, this thread was making my head hurt, so I've given up following it.

I'll have a read back and have a look if there is the unlikely occurrence that I have any suggestions!
 
As Nodge says, the L Series uses a TPS on the throttle peddle that sends a feed to the EDC.

So I'd imagine either the TPS is faulty or the injection pump isn't responding to EDC input. Probably first port of call is to put the car on diagnostics (probably at local LR/LR indie garage) to see if the EDC is getting a correct TPS feed.

There's also a complete outside chance that the EDC or injection pump has been swapped out for the wrong one.
 
It looks like the injection pump has been swapped at some stage the new aluminium look stands out from the rest of the engine
