I would think its a lot easier to fit a seal and gasket, to go V8 you will need to spend double what you quote for the engine and box deal , e.g. radiator, exhaust sys, different mountings, prop shafts, also gearbox tunnel I think is different. Also as said MOT emission reqs , better off uprating the TDI JMHO

HI Folks

Well been busy with the landy last week as i had a few problems mainly caused by me but others i need advice on. Now that i have decided to get a 200tdi in the near future im serviceing and totally rebuilding the current engine or of its parts anywyas. Maybe rebuild all internals laters if it needs done.I intend on useing pure rapeseed oil mix in her soon so alot say make sure the engines fine.Starting on a 50/50 mix till i find the engines ideal ratio.

So at the wkend decided its time to renew all the cooling pipes. I thought i had solved the water leak by tightinign evryhting up ont he pump but i reakon the gasket/seals might be gone anyhoo had no time for that kind of work so decided to reaplce all the pipework put in nice new antifreeze and coolant and a good dose of radweld. Result no more leak :) . Engine nicely warms up then sits happily all day at 1/4 from cold nomatter how hard she gets driven so all is good in that department for now. Dont worry the gasket will be replaced when new seals go on the water pump when im in there to renew the timign belt and tensioner and pulleys along with al other seals in that department. Gona do that in a few weeks gota read up many times on this service as its be the first time on a landy.

Now i got a question about the smoky startups. I have noticed the longer i pre warm the glowplugs up the less white smoke comes oot the back. After she is warm little or no white smoke appears whats your opinions on what this might be. She ahs to get atleast 30 seconds to pre warm or it sounds like a bago spanners are banging aboot the engine bay.

Cheers guys

Scott
