Regarding the Boge unit, the tester pointed out the leak to me, said it was duff and needed replacing, when I told him they were impossible to get now he said if it was taken off he would pass it.My RRC still has the Boge unit in place, it has leaked a bit and probably doesn't work. My original springs had become really tired and I found I could bottom out the rear end very easily so a couple of years ago I did a spring change, put red/white HD springs on the rear and standard rear (green) springs on the front, this raised the ride height by only a small amount (about 20mm I think) but the ride is fine and it doesn't bottom easily. Took the gamble on Britpart dampers, they work O.K. but considering they're not very old, disappointed to see them corroding already. Tows fine with the big trailer on the back.
If you absolutely need to delete the self leveller, I think the best option is switch to standard Discovery springs or maybe change to standard heavy duty Range Rover springing.
The suggestion of air suspension is interesting. I have an LSE in the shed,(in bits!) and looking at that, an air conversion looks like it would be quite easy, only minor modifications needed.
None of the coils should be touching each other in an unladen state IMO.Been out and had a decent look underneath in daylight.
The top of the rear wheelarches are around 31", the clearance bump stop to axle is 2 1/2", the top 4 coils are already touching each other, only the wider spaced coils are free to move. It looks to me as if the bump stops have marked the crud etc on the axle, but I can't rule out the shocks bottoming out without taking them off.
The car is almost empty, about 30kilo of tools/fluids etc in the back, at the moment an almost full fuel tank.
That's exactly what I thought, something wrong there.None of the coils should be touching each other in an unladen state IMO.
$1.650.00 phwoor, I'll have two at that price, oh hang on, they don't actually have any.https://4wdfix.com/products/nrc4163-rrc-self-levelling-unit
Here you go froggy..
Thanks for the posts, I have however decided to go down the uprated coils route.Another maybe?
Unless you dont want the system anymore?

I will take off the shockers and check them over, they primed up alright before I fitted them so assume they are OK, but as said it's going to be easy enough to take them off, easier to change the coils with them off anyway. probably wont happen till next week now, I want to sort out my starting issues first.Sounds as though there's an issue with your springs without the additional support from the Boge.
You need to check the shocks - if only to rule them out - and that's a quick job as you've only just fitted them so the fasteners won't be rusted solid. You're checking that they have good uniform resistance throughout the travel range. If they're not working then there's no resistance to bumps other than the springs - I snapped the offside rear shocker a couple of years ago fully laden & towing on a big roller coaster of a bump on the M5 & the rest of the journey was a bit bouncy!
I also assume you've fitted the rears on the correct sides? (Not trying to be funny, just need to rule everything out, sides are sitting in driver's seat facing forward)
Rear RRC HD Police springs are red/white NRC4304 (listed on Rimmers as NRC4304P: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-NRC4304P)
Unfortunately I can't help by measuring mine as my youngest's car has died & he's currently got my RR!
Can't help with suggestions for which Disco springs to use if you decide to go for them.
Your welcome, its a shame the unit is so expensive and not so many rebuild them...That's exactly what I thought, something wrong there.

You are right about lb/inch.I will take off the shockers and check them over, they primed up alright before I fitted them so assume they are OK, but as said it's going to be easy enough to take them off, easier to change the coils with them off anyway. probably wont happen till next week now, I want to sort out my starting issues first.
Not to forget, yes they are fitted the right way round, the slightly taller one on the drivers side.
Found a usefull data sheet for Land Rover coils. http://www.bilashakaflowers.com/LandroverSprings.htm, haven't decided which to go for yet, but I do need to order soon so I can get on with it.
Would I be right in thinking that the "rate lb/inch" is the amount of weight they will take to close by 1 inch, ie; 150 lb/inch will close by an inch when 150lb is loaded onto it?
Thank you, learn something new every day on here. You are right about lb/inch.
Thank you, and taken note of.Beware, your insurer may consider this a modification.
The worst that can happen is you posting a video of you jumping up and down on the DorisThink I shall have to get the doris underneath while I jump up and down on the tow hitch in the morning.
