Yep, boxes are the same, and also the input shafts. MDE/Cambridge has offered to machine my adapter ring to fit a 4-vyl bell house. I´m tempted as it would sort the problem without me having to yank the box apart, but shipping will be a nightmare. What level of difficulties is involved with separating the bell house and gearbox, with the car on the gravel outdoors?

Sorry I have to bother with simple questions. I´m now about to vist i barn far out in the woods. There I will attempt to yank the bell house out while It´s still in the (6-cyl) 109. Which bolts will I have to undo in order to separate the bell house from gearbox? Clutch bearing, fork and these 4 bolts, or what? I appreciate any advice.

Been a while but for me but recon you are right, Seal between box and bell may be tight. Oil will come out. Take the slave as well, may be different from standard.

You need to remove gear stick mounting bracket , one at least of the four bolts is a through bolt so may need access to other side for spanner .
Can you not get the whole gearbox out?
When you take the clutch sliding part off you will have to remove layshaft locking bolt also generally needs gears locking some how.

Thanks. Yes, got option to get the complete gearbox out. Figured that if the bell house would separate without to much hassle, would be the fastest alt. So, going for complete package would mean release drive shafts, and I suppose a couple of brackets, or what´s involved?

Forgot to mention that this gearbox is shot. Another reason only to go for the bell house. But again, if that´s the easiest way I´m game.

If the layshaft has snapped you might get lucky and get away with the 4 bolts and gear levers removed.
If not the six bolts holding clutch release part need removing to get layshaft bolt loose.

Ok, thanks. If time allows I´ll give this a shot this weekend. I´ll report back.

Back from the woods with the infamous bell house. No major problems, other than the lay shaft lock bolt but in the end it gave in. Problem was locking the gears/lay shaft, with this gear box that is shot. Anyways, now safe on the bench, cleaned it up, getting prepared for a swap.
Thanks for support

Took a 400 km trip out in the woods this weekend, to retrieve the correct bell house, now on the bench getting prepared for beeing transplanted in to the 88.

Procedure went quite smooth, thanks for your advice. Only snag came when the lay shaft locking bolt was going off. I now understand that the gear lever cover needs to be removed, and then engage 2 gears. Will try that when removing the other one from the 88. Can anyone direct me to a real pedagogical instruction as to how this - or any other - procedure is done, I´d appreciate it. I will do my best to find time for some quality time with the 88 this weekend, but there´s quite a few other tasks needing attention too.
Thank you again. As stated before, this is my first Landy, and sofar it´s not alike anything else I´ve been messing with.

If you remove the selector shaft cover then take the detents out between the selector shafts you shoud be able to select two gears [2nd pic]. get a small magnetic pickup about 7mm diameter to remove the balls from the selector springs so that they do not drop inside your gear box one centre one each side.[1st pic]
