Not sure this post is in the right section, but long story short two thieving ****ers stole my lights last night whilst I was on a night shift. Truck lite 7" leds and bearmach side lights and indicators plus the TD5 style light surround trim.
I have done all the standard procedures, police, crime ref etc. My insurance is £425 excess, parts alone are around £580 - minus labour/fitting. I cannot be without lights as I need to work and live, so I spoke to my insurance and they said they cannot guarantee covering me .... if I were to source parts and install myself or use my own garage. Which is understandable and basically means NO. The problem being if they looked at a 92 defender they would probably have an idea on lights to source, but as everything replaced on the old girl is factory standard, bearmach or other OEM, they probably won't despite it all being genuine as can be.

So... my question, do I wait to see if I can get covered, or do I just run this risk, bite the bullet and spend another £600?

Ta very much in advance.

I don't understand what it has got to do with your ins co ... unless your modifications were not declared...

Insurance is, basically, (personnal opinion) a scam. you pay a premium to cover you for "unplanned events" - but then they do everything they can to make sure you can't or don't claim .... ( plus, of course they often try to write a vehicle off for next to no damage, siting "market value" ..... )

Given the price difference 'tween the lights and the excess - IMHO, it's probably easier to just spend the money on new lights and fit them yourself.....

And declare all mods .... ( in case you haven't )

And then cancel the claim - and then see about getting alternative cover without such a large excess...

Iv found you need to tell the insurance company about every nut, bolt, body work add-ons that is not factor fitted from new otherwise they may refuse paying out and as long as the extras are legal for the uk it doesn’t actually cost anymore to insure.

I didn't think they would replace aftermarket parts, even if you mentioned them

For the cost of replacement and the bump in next year's insurance, plus loss of no claims, I'd just suck it up

Agreed to the above. Already ordered and fitted. Another 700 down the drain. Have a lead of CCTV so fingers crossed there also. Thanks all.

If I understand it correctly, you had expensive non-standard parts stolen and you are going to replace them with more expensive non-standard parts? Are you going to leave the vehicle in the same place while you are on night shift?

Yes, left it there the last few nights with all the brand new replacements in, though not on shift, but sat in the loading bay with a crowbar and my PPD Malinois by my side, no luck yet.

Engrave the fancy new parts with the vehicle reg. It's been known int past for replacement parts to be stolen again if they cost a lot.
