Yeah I had to remove the air intake and the egr. I unbolted the manifold to lift slightly out of the way. Reason being is I used a angle grinder to get the metal band off lol.
HI James.
It is a lot better to add the top hose inline stat if the manifold is in fact removed from the car, you get a lot more access, when I change them at our meets on the Rover 75 which as the same M47 engine most owners have the manifold, EGR, and MAP sensor changed at the same time which gets clogged up after the car as done about 50,000 miles so I would imagine quite a few FL1 have never had the manifold changed for a clean one or the EGR as never been cleaned, & the MAP sensor wiped over clean.
I have seen some right messed up manifolds, quite a lot of FL1 & Rover 75 owners just changed the EGR for a bypass one thinking that will be fine but if the EGR is gunked up so will the manifold & the MAP sensor, therefore just changing the EGR is not really solving anything.
Few photo's of manifold & EGR I have removed over time, with clogged up manifolds & EGR, Map sensors, also a couple of how the EGR & manifold should be clean, the same goes for the PCV filter as well depending on whom have serviced the car over the years,
