After a pig of a day trying to get at the PAS pump, I had to give up as was unable to more the pulley bolts (not enough tension on bolt, and don't have the fan removal tool)

So, I removed the top coolant hose to try and get more access.

After giving up on the job and putting the Disco back together I found the 20/21mm top bleed "nipple" just fell apart and separated :(

This Disco only does 10mph off road, is it good enough to jam a self tapper in there?

Not sure which part you mean? Is this the plug on top of the thermostat housing or the one on top of the radiator?????
 
And if it's the viscous fan you're trying to get off but don't have the tool, hit each flat hard with a chisel and it will come off.

Thank You Very much for replies, we will go cold tonight as I remove a Radiator valve!

I was referring to the Thermostat housing top valve.

It works though :) and I didn't mean chiselling them around as that does knacker the edge, just a wack on the flats. If I have any excuse to buy tools I do :eek:
 
Well, that brass radiator plug worked a treat!

It took a long time to pull the remnants of the plastic plug, but now the brass is in and of course I need to flush the coolant, it looks like the original 1995 coolant, and the thermostat gasket seems to have been pushed "in" or perhaps the housing had oxidised.

This car has not been loved.

I hope you got the ones with the bleed valve?

Got just the one in the end, as was unsure how deep the thread was, I did get one with a bleed valve, Ironically the Radiator one moved easily

I need to move the Viscous fan and reading about it, seems I can delete it anyway.


Once out the way I should be able to move the plastic shroud and then the three PAS pulley bolts (oddly look new, so perhaps previous work done here)

I'm not a mechanic, I just pretend!

If yu only have one with a bleed valve - fit it on the thermostat housing.
