Data,

In your mod, at what temperature do the fans kick him ? Can you send me some details, in PM ?
Also, have you ever monitored the engine temperature while driving sans viscous fan ?

Cheers!

You talking V8 petrol or diesel?
Diesel, V8 are in here very, very rare (MPG and +- 450€ TAX/year)

It's not that hot in Portugal.
yes and no.
We get + than 35ºC, but they are very dry.
The "problem" of the RR overheating in here, is high temp, slow speed, and traffic.
That´s why electric fans in the P38A had a 50% satisfaction.
If you live in the country, don´t use off road, don´t have traffic jam, perhaps, your MOD work.

Anyone trying to go round the world in a P38 is mad.
+1

They used to many years ago have different temperature stats, I'm not aware that different temperature stats are used on any modern car.
perhaps sats are not changed anymore, almost all cars now are electric fan controlled.

My last diesel ran happily with no fan unless I got stuck in traffic, electrics rarely come on on the P38 and it can get pretty warm in south west France, also I tow a fair bit.

For what I read, you get rid off the viscous...
If you want a tip, and not spend to much, buy a used Renault 1.9D;) fan.
Or put them like SOS.

Strange place Portugal.
Let´s talk again about P38A;)

off topic (did you know how many Amps/power have the AC fan at full speed...)

Ah..
slow /crawl/ (under no stress) overheat = problem.

do you know the history of the cooling system key components?

investigate water pump/rad/thermostat...

if all as should be then under no stress it will not overheat.

You are 100% right!

What I try to "alert", you can think you have a good working DSE (cooling), until you get in a Hot country.

Thats why I alert the fan MOD, don´t work in here for example.
(you towing with yours and no problem right?).

Also read some of you in UK, run others LR without any fan at all !!!

The temperature at which the fans kick in is adjustable, I set it so that the fans operate at a few degrees above normal operating temperature on the guage. In normal driving, the fans rarely operate even when towing. A slow uphill drag with the caravan will get them going as will a traffic jam when the are more effective than the viscous which would only be idling.
If you want details, PM me with an email address.

tomcatrr.
yes.
This is why I carry an 'emergency gutted' thermostat in the boot.
It should get me out of trouble if I ever need to.

Also doing the DATATEK mod gives very easy access to all bits and bobs.
