After ten years and 100k on a lr exchange engine poor old rusty has finally died..
I can't even be bothered to look too deeply into the engine as its got water in the oil, missing and puffing steam and we all know what that means!..
So..
I have in the workshop a tired but rebuildable spare 4.2 that I was slowly building some big valve heads for but it needs a crank the-grind, shells and all the usual bits and top hat liners if I can afford them..
I'm on a really tight budget but can't bring myself to let rusty go so who would you reccomend to do the machining work??..

If you are spending serious money, Turners would be my suggestion.

Our genuine short motor that we fitted in 2009 has just passed 92k miles, clean as a whistle inside, but we've always run OAT coolant in it and diesel engine oil.

Just had a rebuilt R380 box with heavy duty bearings fitted, from Ashcrofts.

Off to Europe on the 2nd June with the big trailer and Ruston Hornsby engine.

Thanks Peter,
I haven't plucked up the courage to phone turners for a price as yet..
Obviously it would be great if a cheap job could be done but in aware of the pitfalls and with an engine swap being a pain job to do especially with not even a driveway to work on I'll be spitting feathers if a liner slipped or something wasn't right after I've gotten the newun...
Rusty made it to lake Garda and west Ireland last year and never missed a beat. It's been our go everywhere, do everything car for so long it deserves a good engine even if i can't really afford one! Ah well, maybe a cycling holiday this summer while insane the funds!..

Good luck with pulling the trailer!

I just got my block back from Turners and and it all looks like a pretty good job. I got a quote to replace the liners from a local engine rebuilders and they were more expensive than Turners.

I thought about it for along time but then decided I might as well get it done properly so the engine will last for a long time.

An alternative high quality recommendation is acr in deeside in North Wales. Talk to Roland. He also makes wildcat heads!
