I work for a audio store and saw the weirdest thing. Lady brings a 04 freeland in to have the speakers checked becuase she didn't have any bass. So we pull it in, check the tone controls, bass set +7 but still no bass. At this point I'm thinking the deck has taken the long walk . Pull the console and trim to get to the radio, check speakers from factory harness - all read good then I hit them with the old "battery popper". The woofers don't sound like woofers, more like tweeters. "Ok" I'm thinking they play fine minus the bass what could be the problem. So I take a small metal pin through the grill to the cone, locked up solid - all four woofers. Speakers are not blown just locked up. Any one ever had this problem?

must have gotten very wet at some point...thats wierd.

Nothing wierd about Freebies getting wet:D

Seriously tho I've encountered corroded door speaker contacts in every door of mine - fortunately the speakers have remained intact so far - but I guess it's only a matter of time before I have to start replacing.
Perhaps I should look into those maritime speakers intended for boats!;)

could just be a condensation issue. if you leave a car standing for a few weeks in winter without driving it, it gets a bit clammy inside, this could corrode coils of speakers etc, esp. if it was a salty environment like by the sea.
