Hi all just bought a defender 300tdi 110,( my first ever one ) and really excited ,,want to to kit it out for a year africa trip,
Does anyone have any good ideas on the best way to do it ?

Depends on how far you want to go,, But you wont go far wrong with a good roof tent set up.but i have driven to the western Sahara so might be of some help ..pm me if you want .Oh by the way...:welcome2:

Thanks for your reply , we are planning morocco and west Sahara in September before our big one next year. We have a roof tent awning and fridge sorted although not sure where to put fridge yet. Do most people shelf out inside with ply or would this make it too heavy ?, also is wild camping safe in morocco /west Sahara , how did you find all your off road routes, is there much sand driving? Hope you don't mind all the questions

Hi ,,no probs with the questions..
If you are going to concentrate on morocco for your first trip, unless you look for it ,,not a lot of sand driving until you get well south,, down to Guelimin or Erg chebbi, the owners of the hotel there are Mohammed and Yusuf, you dont have to stay in the hotel wild camping is ( or was ) fine.
Some good free camping down near Agadir,, about 3 miles past Tamraght on the route D`Essaouira..Meski oasis is another fine place to stop. Last out post of the French Legion,, Todra gorge another great stop over.
But you will have tarmac all the way to Tan Tan not far after this the road runs out and your on the piste the western Sahara can be dangerous because of land mines and the proletariat, but in the 4 times we went we never had a problem and we where in Morocco all the way through the first gulf war... if you need to know specifics please PM me and i will try to help.

Hi.
Yes you wont have a problem with driving around Erg Chebbi. LOTS of sand to play in,:clap2:,, and camels to drag you out should you need.:bounce:
But you need to get up very early on at least one day ,,to see the sun rise over the dunes ,,the colour is amazing..some really good free camping at Mirleft on the coast south of Agadir but try this link..lots of my travel photos here might give you some ideas..enjoy.
