my l322 ride is really nice now that I have gone to 18" wheels.
it is a nice place to be and when I was offered good money for the p38, I took it.
be careful on what you buy, have spare cash ready to spend and enjoy.

sorry bix :D but couldn't resist posting this beluga black hse metro-cab

:confused:not mine keith;) agreed its firm but silky smooth & quite as a mouse, everthing and I mean everything works as it should. as you know im not afraid to throw cash at it, whatever it needs it gets regardless, only + side with the p38 is its so easy to fix & parts are pennies
I've been in two L322's, the seats on both are like park benches and the amount of suspension/tyre thump is very disapointing, sure they ride & corner flat, but I don't want sports car handling in a 4 x 4 I want comfort & silence.

Comfort and silence ..... Because the P38 is broken and not moving ! Lol

Kieth will never be won over

We all know he secretly loves them !

haha

I suppose the ride in them is a bit harsh but most seem to run on elastic bands thing is I do like my p38 might just have it retrimmed and repainted ;)

At least you know you have a sorted RR if you keep the P38....or at least you know your way around it when it next throws a fit :)

Put a L322 on 18s and it'll ride nicely, once you start replacing sidewall with metal, you're in for a bad time.

That will not make the seats comfortable or make the saggy leather look good:rolleyes:
The M57 mated to a ZF4HP24 box would be a good upgrade to the P38:)

@OP,

the 5L SC's appear to be being snapped up at a great rate at the moment. quite a few guys have bought them and are raving about them. I would love one but just couldn't stomach the fuel bill. But mechanically they seem to be pretty sound. They also tend to have all the toys as standard.

For good examples (or even someone to find you a goodie, try a super trustworthy guy called Gary (Gaz) Elliott (see him over on ffrangerover.com). (no connection, just know him by reputation!)

hope you get one! :D

In fear of receiving serious stick. Change it for a Disco 3 or 4. More functional than an L322 and far more comfy. Another grandchild on the way and SWMBO started talking 7 seaters so we could all go out together and then she mentioned the dreaded Galaxy word:eek: So in a fit of panic I traded in the Jag for a Disco 3. Owned one many moons ago and had forgotten what a nice drive they are.

Disco 3 / sport - same car

Both turn me off due to requiring the body off for most major engine problems !

My old company Disco 3 was a comfy ride, a little buffeted on the motorway, but there wasn't much you couldn't get in it.
Luckily it was due to go back as the turbo failed....that's a hell of a repair. There are ways to change this with the body on if your houdini.

I drove back from the hospital last night after an operation to remove a lump and infected tissue from my back, seats comfy enough for a 'large' chap who has just had an operation and left with an open wound to close with secondary intention and packed with a seaweed dressing.....

Operation at 10.30am till 12pm then drove home at 19.30 only problem was leaning forward to look round corners at junctions...

Admittedly my previous Jags and P38's had very soft seats, but the L322 is comfier than most others.

Not a major job, if you have access to a 4 post lift:)

And a lot more advise out there concerning diy with lots of useful short cuts now that they've been around a few years. Certainly no more problematic than an L322, they're both LR's after all!!

Sandy
all i can say is try a L322,the p38 will soon be dumped.
Ive just done exactly what your thinking of doing and would not go back to a p38 even less to a disco 3, a mate has one and its like a shed compared to a full fat RR and thats the HSE spec disco.
