See I know you like them really, hippo made it, 90 needed a helping hand. Ok the FL2 driver was a bit concerned, maybe a first timer in his pride and joy, but it coped.
I have been on two wheels in a disco 6 this week, shame they wouldn't let me drive.
the Fl2 driver backed off so i think that's why it hesitated abit, but in the right hands are capable , just got the clearance restriction ,
my hippo served me well but when i got the D3 , wow, what a difference ,considerably more comfortable, bags of room , extremely quiet down the motorway , haven't had it out on a decent off road course yet , in owning both models and from my own personal perspective the D3 is leagues ahead of the hippo , but that's my own opinion , but like everything , each to there own and which ever model of landy suits them best, but wouldn't ever go back to owning a hippo , like the discovery range too much
imagine u also noticed a difference being in the disco , which model did u drive , how come they wouldn't let u drive
there's always been friendly banter between the models to which is best , that's an easy one to answer ,

Oh I have had a series 1, a 2000 hippo, and then the facelift which I have now and will probably keep, a commercial 55 plate and my Mrs has an auto 54 plate sport, both 3 door hippos.
As for driving, I occcasionally tow a 3.5 ton trailer, the company used to use defenders however one weekend one got rolled and written off, tail wagging the dog, I had a slight wobble once coming over the A66 with a fender but coped. I have driven Disco 3 and 4, manual 3, auto 4 again towing 3.5t. I like the 3, 4 has tone the best though.
Btw it was a disco 5 not six, getting ahead of me self, the reason they wouldn't let me drive is because of insurance at the motor show.
On saying I will probably keep my FL1c I would like a disco 3 commercial auto. 55 plate, possibly a very late Diaco2 pursuit auto.
Sorry double post internet got stolen for a bit and I got impatient.
Edit: It was that @Turboman that got me into LR, I had the series 1 whilst lodging at his gaff, paid £800 for a vehicle that hadn't had an MoT for over a year and had done something stupid like 30 miles in 3 years, cost 22 new pence for a circlip for the brake master cylinder and bout £200 in welding for the MOT.
Pretty much rebuilt it in one of TM's barns, top speed of 45mph with a 2ltr BMC engine, ref no CSV 315 ( maybe 6 ) 1956, it was great fun daudling around Cornwall.
Iirc TM had a series II 109 safari with a Perkins engine at the time.
I know we got airborne one night coming back from the pub in the S1, rear leaf spring broke on landing, picked up another pair of assisted springs for very reasonable money the next day from the breakers.
