Never seen one of those.

'Ah the good old Majestic Major. Back in the 'sixties when I was a chauffeur a friend in the same job took his employer & family to the station (Paddington I believe) to catch the night express to Scotland & then drove the Daimler, with the luggage, up the A1 to meet them. He was waiting for them at the station when the express pulled in!

At a total petrol cost of possibly about £15.00 or so. How times change.

Old Rover 3.5 V8 was almost bullet proof. Very easy to work on. Worst V8 ever, Triumph Stag engine. Possibly the best i ever worked on 4.7 V8 in 928 Porsche.

Couldn't agree more.

BIG fan of the 928's. Such a smooth V8. Porsche didn't make it though did they? Or did they?

I had a 2.5 litre V8 Daimler Jag MKII, took it to Africa with me. After it knocked the silencers off on the rough roads, I ran it on straight throughs, sounded lovely with a bit of wellie. I thought it was a good engine, gave me no trouble, used very little oil. sold it for a fortune to the Local Police chief who wanted a status symbol. I was leaving the country the day after LOL.
It was more reliable than my mates 3.8 Jag straight six and used less oil.

Back in the 'sixties an employer of mine had a Buick Electra with the 427ci lump. It had such a slow & smooth tick-over that (if you really focused your eyes) you could count the fan blades as they went around!

Bloody hell Keith that brings back memories. Mine was white i bought it for a song but it cost a bloody fortune in plugs as it oiled them up for fun. Could not be bothered doing engine so blocked it for a £150.00 profit. Pity really because the car was absolutly mint inside and out. That would be around 1969 i guess. £150.00 profit was a couple of weeks wages then.
