Having bought my Disco 2, I am determined to do as much work on it myself as possible. I have posted a couple of threads and would like to thank everyone for their help.

Today, I thought it would be a good idea to grease the UJs and prop shafts. The UJ has a grease nipple and when I tried applying the grease, it would not go through the nipple and came out at the sides. I took the nipple out, cleaned it and used a piece of wire to ensure there were no blockages. Put the nipple back on and the result was the same, grease out of the sides. Moved to the blanked nipple thread, removed the plug, unscrewed the nipple from the UJ inserted into prop shaft and grease went in. No problem at all. Put the nipple back in the UJ and the grease would not go in. Can anyone suggest why this happened?

Moved to the second UJ. Blanking plug in place. Put Allan key in, as used on last plug and it just rotated around in the plug. Next size up was too big. How can I get this plug out?

So far, everything I have done has been far from straight forward. However, it is enjoyable!

It could be. However I never had problems with greasing motorbike and the prop shaft. If it was a poor nozzle would it not struggle on all?

youd expect so ,sometimes its hard to fit on the nipple fully dependent on how tight yokes are to each other

The grease nipples on the U/Js can be a little problematic, especially if the nipple is a short type.
You can get slightly longer nipples online which will make greasing somewhat easier. Short nipples can be left in place on the prop shaft sliding joints if you so wish.

The secret is to have a high pressure grease gun to get the grease past the nipples ball bearing seal, therefore in the 28 years I've had been greasing my L R. props its been trouble free, I use a Wanner grease gun purchased long a go in my MG days for prop and steering ball joints, but now fitted with the optional flexi although I had to put the tip on the grinder for a few laps so it would fit between the yokes for the L R.

So a quick 10 minute job once a year, no a problem with the factory fitted grease nipples. :D
