Was after some ATF to do a jatco oil change , I know that LR sell the really expensive ATF402 & other users have used the carlube ATF-U ?

I contacted goldcrest to see if they had the texaco 402 at a good price & got this reply ?

Thank you for your enquiry - the Texaco 402 has been discontinued and replaced with Havoline Multi Vehicle ATF, we have this in our normal stock - I have quoted below for you:-
Texaco Havoline ATF 12 x 1 litres @ £72.00 per cash + £10 delivery.

What do you think of this ATF ?

Havoline is fine - but why 12 litres?

As for other alternatives, here's the complete list of equivalents:

MG Rover/X Part GUL 1805 or VYK 000 040
Land Rover STC 50531 - labelled as ATF 402
Texaco Havoline Multi-vehicle ATF
Fuchs Titan ATF 4400
Carlube ATF-U
Valvoline Maxlife ATF
Ravenol ATF JF506E

The same Jatco box is used in many vehicles and last year I did a 'deep search' for what they all recommended.
Ended up buying 5 litres in 1 litre bottles from the Main Stealer and got 15% discount.

I did not realize there were so many alternatives . I only want to do a 1/2 change which I believe needs 4 litres ? But if the fluid is really dirty I will change it again later on , The qoute from goldcrest was to see if they had the texaco I did not ask for 12 bottle but I think they only sell in bulk .

Last ATF change was done at LR @41k and 6 years ago ( 60k service ) ,My Td4 is now on 73k so thought it might like some new oil in there .

revised thread anyone got any opinion on the oil below please, can it be used in the FL1 and or the R40 auto gear box
Comma Automatic Transmission & PSF (MVATF Plus) Fully Synthetic 5ltres

Not sure about the Comma, but I am using Ravenol JF506E with no issues.

Thank you for your post, would anyone know about this oil as I am still searching which oil to use, I have so far been referred to this oil below.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carlube-...sion-Fluid-4-55L-FULLY-SYNTETHIC/121347314407

Then I was told that this is the better oil to use
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATF-N402...ic-Transmission-Fluid-5-Litre-5L/372159669390

This is getting quite confusing can these differing oils be mixed, I ask this because how do we know what oil make as been used in the gear box before we owned the car. Can the first oil be used as a flushing oil and if so how long is the oil left in before draining and filling with the oil of choice, all answers appreciated

I've been using Carlube ATF-U since 2012 in the Jatco box. It been perfect substitute for the N402 with a much higher spec and at a 1/4 of the price.

I've not used the Comma fluid you linked, but Comma oil is very good. So as long as it says it's an N402 compatible, I can't see a problem with it. The Jatco box seems quite happy on a quality Dexron 2 or 3, so I guess those would be fine too. I've actually used a semi-synthetic D2 as a flushing fluid for my current TD4 auto box, as when I got it the fluid was in a right old state. I flushed it 3 times with the D2 over about 2K miles, before doing 3 changes with ATF-U. After the 3rd change of Dexron 2, the box was shifting smoothly, so then started to the change to ATF-U.

Hi all and a Happy new year!!!
The below question was asked by Arctic2 but I couldn't find an answer.
"can these differing oils be mixed, I ask this because how do we know what oil make as been used in the gear box before we owned the car"
I have just purchased RAVENOL ATF JF506E
I have no idea what ATF is currently in my FL1 auto, it may never have been changed since new.
Will the RAVENOL ATF JF506E be ok to mix with what is currently in there?
Thanks for your advice

They are all Dexron style fluids, so they should all mix ok. It's obviously better to have the same fluid in there, but in reality that's impossible to achieve unless the transmission is completely drained out.
Me I'd not worry, as it's better to have new fluid of a different brand than old fluid doing damage.
