Morning all,

Just brought a 53 plate 1.8 Freelander. All works fine as far as I can see except the HDC button doesnt seem to light on the dash? read the other threads regarding fault finding this so will tackle that first. However I am unsure on how to test if the 4WD system is still in operation? is this the same as testing the VCU? any help would be welcome! Thanks.

HDC button problem is most likely a wire(or both as on mine) that is broken under the gear gaitor. See: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f69/how-hdc-hill-decent-control-repair-175880.html

A good test is to park on wet grass and pull away hard if the front wheel's spin without the rear kicking in to pull you forward.

Did you check if it still has its propshaft also? I found when looking for one a lot of stealers don't tell you its no longer 4wd
