Hi i test drove a discovery tdi 04 plate with 100k on the clock last week it drove perfect apart from the first 600 yds when there was quite a bit of smoke .the garage started the engine which was fine and then left it to idial for 20 mins also the vehicle had not been driven since early dec
After that short distance there was no smoke at all and ran very smooth
Could this bea problem?
Also the morning was very icy and cold
Thanks mike

As @jamesmartin has said, you shouldn't really let it just idle for 20 minutes. It's unlikely to be a Disco Tdi on a 2004 plate, more probable a Td5.
Do a proper test run, check the fluid levels before and after, watch the temperature gauge, although it won't tell you much but it will show if the engine has overheated. If possible take someone who knows these vehicles with you.

Thanks for advice took it for about 1 hr test drive stopped turned engine off and on after 10 mins and all was good temp guage fine and no evidence of leaks or levels dropping
It is a TD5 sorry must of been tired history on car also states only 1 advisory for headlight adjustment in its life

Hi @Mike Taylor ,

I wrote this for someone going to look at buying a D2 TD5.

May be of use if you have not seen it already.

Cheers
