Hi all

I like to think I can fix most things when I know whats wrong! We all know that diagnosing faults on our beloved Range Rovers is a pain without a test book with its diagnostic software.

I have been to my local steelers and they want £84 to put me on their test book very time I need a diagnostic test or to clear a fault. I have to say they are always very helpful but very costly.

Question 1. Is there anyone in the South East Wales area (Newport) (Can travel but not accomodate........... Ooops wrong website!) who offers a test book diagnostics service for a reasonable cost? I have heard in other parts of the UK people do it for about £20.

Question 2. Is it worth generating a list of people who would offer this service and have it somewhere on the Landyzone website for people to access?

Question 3. Do you have to have a special laptop or just the software and an appropriate cable?

Hi Bison

Testbook is the actual name of the diagnostic system and it made up of a laptop running the Testbook/T4 software connected to a very special interface unit connected to the network port of the laptop, then the interface box connects to the car's diagnostic socket. It is virtually impossible to replicate the testbook interface. I better solution if you wanted to buy your own diagnostic system is the Black Box Faultmate these are highly recommended on here and some say are even better than the offical Testbook/T4 software.

i too live in newport, i was thinking about trying MDP, independant LR dealer, heard good things about them.

yeah MDP are at raglan, next to countrywide farm supplies, 4th exit off dual carriageway from A449, bends left, then 1st right along lane, first left. let me know how you get on, cheers, steve

I visited MDP and spoke to a chap called Paul. He was more than extremely helpful! For a full diagnostic they charge £60. But I didn't want a full diagnostic just some faults clearing. He was very accommodating!

Well worth a visit if you need some help.

Just purchasing a Faultmate myself - 10 visits would pay for it and I can do the tests and clear faults in my own time...
 
Clearing faults in your own time is a good thing. What Faultmate are you buying and for what vehicle?

bison,

i have just used TWA auto electrics on corporation rd for aircon rebuild etc, they can do fault readings etc and charge £38 + VAT, very helpful, used them few times for various cars.
