My FL2 is some 5 years plus old and has done 45,000 miles. These have been a joy and without problems except for a faulty tailgate switch.
However of late I have been getting a warning message that there is a problem and that "REDUCED TRACTION IS SELECTED". To overcome this I have turned the Terrain responce dial to the Snow and Ice setting for a while and when either turning back or restarting all is back to normal. This was OK until this week and now when I start up the Terrain responce is active in the Ice and Snow mode and I have to rotate the knob to turn of TRS.
Anyone got any ideas as to what might be the initial problem and if this has lead to the second problem.

Thanks OldIrishWulf, but tyres are good. relatively new Wranglers. Slightly more road noise than Michelins and slightly heavier on fuel but better in the snow.

Thanks Mantamad
Had a software upgrade about 6 Months ago, but it may be worth having it reloaded, if it is anything like my computer a good old defrag may work wonders....

Sorry to have built your hopes up. I will make Christmas cake sacrafice to the snow god for you tonight, in the hope that you get snow soon.........

Hi OldIrishWulf

Think I am in the same boat as you guys then, but it nice to know that there is someone out there to talk to.

apparently there is a sensor which causes this fault, can't remember much about it, but it was covered in the back of this months LRO magazine.

save your scheckles:

"The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the instrument panel is illuminated and the message panel shows 'traction reduced'. This can be caused by the Haldex unit's pressure sensor and circuitry."

"Check the harness and its connections. If they're okay, next try a new pressure sensor, check for diagnostic trouble codes, in particular P1889-74."

As seen on page 174 of the February issue of LRO magazine. That's all there is. it does cover some other common faults, but no more on this issue.

Thanks Optimus Prime, for looking after my scheckles.
After you told me what page it was on I took the time to read it when visiting Morrissons...........got to see the pictures of the unit as a bonus. Must be the wiring or the sensor because every thing is back to normal now.
I have had one other incident which was mentioned in the same article, "engine fails to start and when starts trip/fuel consumption sets to zero". I did not mention this to anyone as I thought they would think me a little potty, nice to know it is not just me.
main dealer has done a free update to the "system" at a recent service and have not experience the none starting and zeroing since.
