Thought I'd check the MOT status on the truck, as it is due in March, ISTR? Oh yes. Feck me, next Thursday, March 4th, all day. Is MOT day. Don't panic!

Needs brakes, mainly? Front rotors N pads. Pads were okay, rotors were shagged though. So they got replaced with MTEC (grooved N drilled) rotors and new matching pads, nothing of which shown. They seem alright, and should last as long as any other brand 3/5 years? Total cost was £110 delivered to my door, which is astounding value for money. £55 per side. I will update once a few hundred miles been covered as still very much new and bedding in. https://www.mtecbrakes.com/

TDV8 Brembo brakes really were a MUCH needed UPGRADE to those Lucas

fitted to the TD6, which can only be described at best as just about, adequate with good planning and early deployment.

Brembo caught me out in the tool dept. Didn't have a drift in stock, man enough, to drift out the brake pad securing pins. Screwfix did though. £8 for a set. So the old truck now stops almost as well as it goes which is kinda handy.

Rear shocks replacement are next on the list.... Thanks to my forward thinking, I have a set of those in stock too, which is frightfully handy. Almost like I'd planned it. :D

Rear shocks done. Was really straight forward job. Bottom mounting nut & bolt came off no bother on both sides, access to top of the shock was easy enough too from inside the car. Most difficult part of working on Reggie is getting the wheels back on they're so bloody big and heavy. All four wheels studs now torqued upto 140nm, as they've all been off in the last few days. Ready for the MOT on Sat morning. Then oil service will be due again as on 6 monthly changes.

Oil service items arrived. 2 Mahle OX196/1D1 filters and 2 OEM sump plugs, £25 delivered. Bought 2 of each to save on postage, from Island 4X4. Millers Oils XF Longlife C1 5W-30. Two 5L (10L) cost £51 delivered from Getoffroad4x4 on eBay. Amazing value for really good quality UK produced oil.

Will be directly!
Just back from Glenfarg Garage. Was good to catch up with Scott, who has never been busier, so good news for him.

Reggie failed, needs both front lower suspension arms as the bushings are kaput, OS trackrod end and wheel alignment afterwards. He's quoted me £340, plus the MOT £45. Good quote, as the parts are £150. So he's going back on Weds. It will also need new front and front to rear brake pipes, he thinks those are originals which is bordering on being a miracle for a 12-year-old Land Rover. Advisory for this year as long as they're replaced in the summer. I have a plan for this. So that's about £700 in maintenance for the 130K service/10th MOT. Scott has also spotted a slight oil leak from up top in the V of the V8. He reckons it's almost certainly the oil cooler. 5 hours labour in stripping that out and putting it all back, with the new cooler being a couple of hundred quid. I think I'll be DIY'ing that one in the summer.

Other than that he liked the car, right colour Buckingham Blue and the last of them prior to the 2010 facelift when it went all diamonte grills and drug dealer tints.

Hell of a lot of motor for less than 5K, John. Yeah, they are tremendous value for money, Scott. I had to agree. :)
