My 200 tdi 1993 90 temp gauge has always never even got off the white at the start, it does mnove a bit, and I have so far tested it with a meter - ruliung out a faulty gauge, and replaced the sender unit with a brand new original land rover one, but the reading is the same, even on long journeys or sat in traffic.

I am wondering if it might have something to do with the thermostat?

Any advice please?

The heater is OK ish, nothing to write home about, but from what I have read on here they are all like that?

Many thanks

have you replaced the coolant? have you flushed the system? have you removed the stat and tested it in a pan of gradually increasing temperature?

thought so.

maybe a blockage? do the above before anything else.

I would check that there is a thermostat in there - the day I bought my 90 it overheated on the way home so i whipped the thermostat out to get me back in one piece - it didnt go above the white after it was out.

If its not there you might have a fun time working out why it overheats with a new thermostat in.

- if it is there, it would be worth testing like Griffdowg said

thermostat is on the top front of the engine where the rad hose fits on. .

i changed my engine from the old 2.5 to a 300 tdi, when changed the temp gauge didnt even move past the white. I was convinced that it was the thermostat cause the heater didnt warm up, it just got slightly warm, changed the thermostat and the temp gauge works so does the heater.
