If you have a lathe, and the knowledge to use it, why ask the question in the first place?

Personally, if this was my engine, I would put the original temp sender in my lathe, drill the sender out to fit the new sender. Tap it, seal it, and use the old one as a bush for the new one.

Because I’m asking if the temp sender I have bought for the 200tdi defender will work with my defender gauge that I currently have fitted. If so I will make a boss to fit it.

If it’s a defender sender and a defender gauge then yes

He hasn't got the right sender, he needs the right one, and probably a gauge to match. Not certain about the gauge, but often the gauge and the sender only work with the correct pairing.

Also, tapping a piece of 40 year old alloy may not prove straightforward.

If you read his original post, you will see he has both. He has a current sender that fits the block, so is the correct thread, and a new defender 200tdi sender. So yes he does have the items needed, but like I said in my last post, if he has the knowledge to use the lathe, he will also have the knowledge to look after the piece he is working.

You might be right, but I am not certain. He said that he has a 200Tdi Defender sender, but as far as I can ascertain, that engine is from a Range Rover. It may be the same sender, it may not, BL, who made the vehicles at the time, were notorious for using different parts almost at random.

He also said he has purchased one for a 200tdi defender. I wonder if he gets sorted?

Someone on forebay sells a pack of brass adaptors which includes the one you need.

Can't find the link. I had a similar thread many years ago.

Ended up replacing with a durite gauge and sender about five years ago. Used one of the adapters in the pack above.

Nice! That would be ideal. Will try to find them

Thanks everyone for the help, now only my next problem.... the starter motor!
