Hi All, I have been told that the temp gauge on the D 2 is unreliable, ie by the time it reaches the red it's already too late. This happened to me but fortunately I must have been lucky(so far). Has anyone fitted an after market stand alone temp gauge, and does it work ok.

I think that for somebody who wants to keep a D2 in good shape both ECT and EGT gauges are necessary, it's not hard nor expensive, i fitted cheap gauges and they've been working well since the beginning, the ECT shows 4*C more compared to nanocom but as long as i know that it's OK, i had to change the EGT probe after 3 years as it was burned out that's all.
here's my setup

I copied Sierafery's easy installation of an extra water temp gauge & have been very glad I did on a couple of occasions where faults have caused overheating that wasn't warned of by the standard gauge at all.
If I remember correctly the standard gauge is controlled to display "Normal" when the temperature is anywhere between 75 & 105C - and no warning of overheating via going into the "red" until 125C.

Almost so... the d2 gauge stays at the middle between 70 -119 and goes up at 120
