I have a strange problem with my temp gauge. during the daytime it sits on half way then when I switch my lights on at night, it slowly climbes to 3/4 but dosent ever go into the red/hot?! Any suggestions to what the cause of this could be???

Are you diesel or petrol. Check your temp sender on the engine. This might be going faulty and giving false readings. Also check wiring to the sender and to the gauge on the dash display.

I had a similar problem with my 300. My temp gauge would go up when the lights/radio/heater etc were turned on. If i sat with my foot on the brake pedal or the indicators on they would also make it rise.

I did a search on here (seems to be quite a common problem) I went to halfrauds and bought a big battery earth cable with eyes on both ends (£3) one end is on the bolt that holds the bulkhead footwell supports to the chassis and the other goes to the transfer box earth.

No problems since :D

Exactly the same symptoms as mine. Have lived with it for a year now, but will try putting in the earth cable as mentioned above!

I do belive Mr Shifty explaned it last week for all of you, dont worry. Everthing is ok

Now my stereo turns off when I flash my main beam.. And my dash lights dim.. Must be an earth problem, will also try the new bonding lead.

will it be the big earth cable to the engine? it is the only one that has been disturbed in the engine change.. and the loom plug, but i cant see that causing an issue or not having a good connection, it was bloody well tight to get back in!

there is an earth which goes through the bulkhead into the engine bay. In the same bundle as all the wiring plugs for rear lights engine and front headlight connectors. Make sure it has a good earth as i found with my 110 it can cause dash, light, wiper faults and starting faults if the ground is poor

cheers mate, will check mine later

Had a good hunt for that earth in the loom to the rear but couldn't find one! Where abouts is it? Ta!

my vehicle is a v8. I am guessing they would share that part of the loom even on diesels. I will get a photo when i go back to my landy later

I hope this helps

If you have a multimeter i would then test the voltage into the gauge with and without the headlights on. More than likely an earth fault but certainly an odd fault

Hmm, I have a go at cleaning the other earth up and see if that helps. It would make sence seen as I have disturbed it. Also headlights dim when anything us turned on.. Indicator flashing, fog light, reverse.. And my stereo turns off momenterily when I flash mains or turn dipped on!!?
