ok , have put a 200 tdi defender engine into my mod 90. got given a temp gauge with the engine, no. prc 7311. the gauge shows the engine heating really quickly and goes to the top of the white bar, have changed the thermostat and temp sender no. prc 8593 , so take it I have the wrog gauge cause the engine aint over heating. can any one give me the right gauge no. to suit or even sell me the right gauge ta.

the 7311 is for a TD, the 8593 is correct for a 200 but it needs to be matched to the right guage - i think you'll find that AMR2631 is what you'll need - they are about£50 new but you can get a whole 200tdi instrument panel off ebay fer about £30

look on the bay matey, seen some couple days ago,

id av checked the gauge first though

if the guage is from the TD it'll never read right - and you can ignore that Nathaniel Ham bloke orf that difflock site cos the sender threads are different.

Just use the SENDER from the old engine. It matches the gauge.
You should be able to find a tapped hole in the head that it will fit into.

that's the trouble, there isnt a tapped hole with the correct threads - i've now done this conversion 4 times and never found one - apparently there is an adaptor (threaded bush type thing) but i can't find the part number

Bummer.

The older engines have several holes in the back top left of the head for senders.

Is there a tapped and plugged hole tucked in at the waterpump, front right side, just under the overhang of the head?
