Im hoping some one can help on here. I have a 2005 Disco V6 with 120k on the clock. It has been fully serviced through out its life. It has just had its most recent service but wont start when the outside temperature is close to zero.
I have had the last service at an independent garage. They have told me they tried to check the glow plugs but are struggling to remove them but think they are ok. They think the fault is the egr valve and have suggested just blanking it off. The car is not showing up any faults apart from the EGR valve intermitently. Should i take it to a franchised dealer or try the cheap option of blanking the EGR's first? Could any one suggest anything else?

Any help would be great

careful with the glow plugs, very "vulnerable", they stick because of calamine and break sometimes!

I offer:
diesel oil filter change first
Test your battery
EGR blanking is a good idea!

Egr would cause this, since tdv6 came out I have never replaced a set of glow plugs where as egr valves I have replaced loads.
You need to get the codes read and see what egr is sticking and just replace it with re tearing re vehicle after

It is more than likely its your glow plugs that have gone down, I have the same problem. Be very careful of having them changed, if they shear then its the head off to drill out, which means the body off, I have seen people with bills for £2000 for this problem.
There is another option you can try, a company called BAS, Bell Auto Services in York can supply a FBH Controller. This can be operated by a remote and sets the FBH running before you start the car and heats the engine coolant. You then don't need the glow plugs to work.
New to this site so not sure if he advertises or sponsors the site, but worth a look. :)
