Hi all,
I am looking for a recon/new engine for my 1998 Tdi discovery, any one know a good place to get one at a good price.

Trevor.

If u r going new then have a look at Land Rover conversions - M&D Engineering they do a 2.8tdi with 277lbf ft torque to fit a 200 or a 300tdi disco.

Thanks for that but I can't afford £5,000 + for an engine but I agree it would be nice.

I have been looking on the internet and the problem is I think the garage I have been to is trying to rip me off as the car goes like a train up to about 3000 revs then I gat flat spots, it feels like when a petrol engine is not fireing on all cylinders, I think their is a problem with the boost controll /wast gate. I am looking at fitting an electronic boost controller but again I am not sure if this is possible on a 1998 Tdi discovery.

Trevor.

You need to learn how to find and clean your turbo boost compensator on your injection pump.

It's a bit High-Tech - you need to undo four small screws - but might solve your entire problem in half an hour at a total cost of Phukol.

These guys do a good recon and if you pay an extra 100 quid they'll put their performance head on it for ya Land Rover 300TDI, 200TDI, V8, TD5, Freelander TD4, 2.0TCie, 2.5 Turbo Diesel Engines etc supplied from stock for Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, Freelander from Turner Engineering also if they're a bit steep these do a good re con as well About Legs

Rather than dribble on about new engines you dont need, why dont you just stick a pressure gauge on it and see what boost you are getting. If your garage cant even suggest or do this then dont go back as they obviously know stuff all about turbo diesels.Esp one as simple as this.

Dont worry I will not be going back to them but I am finding it hard to find a diesel specialist nr coventry.

Just try and find yourself a decent lr specialist, they're all over the place. Any good independent will know his/her way round a diesel, especially something as simple as 300tdi bud

sound advice specially for someone that has just sed they are having trouble finding one

Had this on my 300tdi.
Lift pump failed. Exactly the same symptoms - went like stink up to 3000rpm and then it was like someone had stuffed a sock in the inlet manifold.
Try a new lift-pump first. There`s enough suction from the pump in the back of the injection pump to run it to 3k, but not muuch more.
