after repairing the sisters disco over xmas and geting to drive it for a few weeks i had to have one! found and bought a m-reg tdi discovery es on sunday, anyway seems to drive fine in around town ect 1st/2nd/3rd type driving but seems slow and dosent really want to pull very well in 4th and 5th wasnt really sure if it was me or not so jumped out of mine into the sisters p-reg tdi and......... hill 1- hers reached just over 60 and droped to just under 60 mine reached just under 60 and droped to just over 50! hill 2 (longer) hers reached 70 and held at 70 mine reached 65 and droped to 55!!! seems to be too much of a differnce to be just one of those things, checked turbo pipes/fuel system and nothing obvious the only thing i can see/hear that is differnt is the turbo on mine seems louder but not stupidly loud!! not really had much to do with landys in the past so thought id drop in and ask for a bit of help! any ideas???

Did you check whether the inside's of the turbo pipes are de-laminating, as that will affect performance ... changing the air filter can make quite a difference too as these TDi's are quite hungry for fresh air. Are the tyre's different sizes on the two Disco's?

tyre sizes are the same, havent really checked hoses as well as i could have so will have a good check 2mo along with changing the filter! noticed it wont rev above 4000rpm in 3rd and well off that in 4th and 5th?

Could also check the exhaust/inlet manifold gasket for leak's as you might be losing boost pressure, this went on our's and caused the engine to lose power. One other possibility is a clogged up fuel filter causing fuel starvation. Out of curiosity, it's not red is it? cos' they don't do hills very well:rolleyes:

right, changed air and fuel filter and no joy! checked all turbo hoses are all are ok! took off intercooler and with hand over one end blew down the other and can hear a very slight leak? will this be enough to cause this kind of power loss!!!

bit of an up-date , changed fuel/air filter and cleaned fuel housing found up under the rear (sediment is it??) also changed all hoses and inter cooler for known good ones and still no change, im looking at the lift pump now iv read on hear that when i un do the bleed bolt on the fuel filter and pump the handle on the pump i should get fuel out the bleed bolt but im geting nothing and the handle seems to have no resistance! thinking of replacing the lift pump 2mo, can anyone advise on wot iv said to weather the pump sounds duff or not?

The pump is probably ok. It depends on where the lob is on the camshaft as to how much movement there is on the manual pump lever. Give the key a very quick turn to turn the engine through a few degrees and try again. Or indeed leave the bleed screw undone and crank the engine a small amount and see if anything comes out.

You can take the pump off and disassemble it easily enough to see if the diaphram has a hole in it or one of the one way valves is not closing. You should be able to suck your finger onto the inlet side and create a small pressure under your finger on the outlet.

i had the same problem on my 200tdi disco. i changed fuel filter cleaned the sediment filter and still happening, then changed the lift pump and has been sweet eva since
