Hi - I am getting ready to to a TDI conversion into my 1987 110. I have bought an engine which has all its ancileries with it but i was planning to keep my old radiatior from the TD. Will this work? I was going to get an intercooler and fit seperatley but i am not sure where or how i am going to mount it. Any ideas?
Also i have seen several pictures of other peoples conversions and not many of them have swapped the viscous fan over. It is a must have or dont i need it with the TDI

Thanks

just use the rad and intercooler off the engine far far easier dont forget to cut the mounts down mind or the bonnet wont close

how easy it it to fit the 200tdi rad then? All the talk of cutting and welding put me off as i cant weld :(

will fit the space perfectly just need to cut 2" off the mounting plates at the bottom to lower rad then your have to extend hoses to fit or buy a kit from ebay
forgot to ask did you get the oil cooler pipes aswell ???

Dead easy to fit a 200 rad and int . have a read through the converson post thats a sticky at the top , all will be explained there

all you need to do to run the TD pipes to a 200 disco rad is to remove the adaptors from the TD oil filter housing and fit them to the 200 :) no need to get pipes made up etc . Its what I did with mine

the new engine has got its oil pipes anyway. Do you have to but new rad pipes?

I managed to use the disco pipes and TD pipes . you;ll have to extend the header tank pipe tho + the heater pipes , but its easy just cut the steel heater pipes ( the ones that run over the manifolds ) to the right length and cut n shut into the rubber pipes :) .

The radiator that came with my Disco TDI had a hole in it :( A local independent dealer did me an Allroads one for just under £100. And I picked up a spare intercooler on fleaBay for a fiver!

Sadly you can't always do this. I have done 2 conversions where the oil cooler doesn't have removable adaptors. Probably aftermarket radiators.

Got my engine today:)
The chap had a rad aswell which he chucked in for nowt!
If i take the TD oil filter housing and oil pipes will they fit the 200tdi rad?

It's possible - if it's a standard radiator you should be able to swap over the adaptors from the TD radiator to the TDI one. If it's an aftermarket one, you might have to faff about finding adaptors that'll fit. Even so, it's gonna be cheaper than getting bespoke pipes made up.
