300tdi is the way forward but most have got 200k miles on so pay extra and get cam belt and full service done and make sure you provide new oil crank seal front and rear and new clutch while it's out

Ahhh good advice. The company making ploughs is on ebay. With council budgets shrinking they dont do retail parks etc. They pay good money to do it.....the cost of the plough in about 2 days. Morrisons paid a farmer 3 times to come out last year.£1500 a time and no salt put down!

Just a quick jump in on the conversion. I am worcestershire based but dont have facilities to do a conversion. Anyone recommend somewhere? Whats a reasonable price? Found a place in chepstow quoting £1000 for 300tdi conversion and he gets my old 2.5td engine and bits.
My best quote was from a garage in fordingbridge in the new forest (candys) they quoted me £900 inc vat, for taking out V8, and putting in 200tdi. BUT, that was with me supplying and fitting new clutch, and slave cylinder myself, and supplying all the parts needed for the job, which adds to the cost considerably! In my case because I am taking out a V8 petrol, with twin downpipes, I've got to buy a new exhaust too. What Im saying is whatever quote you get, first make sure it includes the vat, and also make sure EXACTLY what parts they will supply with the quote. Go through with them what you have with your engine on the phone, and what you will need, and find out whats inclusive and what isn't. Otherwise you may be in for a shock when it comes to all the extras they may put on, on top of your quote.

In the end it was just too expensive for me to get it done by a garage, so I,m in the middle of doing it myself. I've got about half way now with getting the V8 out, but it's hard backbreaking work if your not used to doing that kind of thing. It's coming on ok though, albeit slowly, but i'm in no great hurry, I've got all the parts I need now apart from the exhaust and extended oilcooler pipes, and I'm shortly going to put the new engine in. (I had to buy an engine crane too, but I can sell that when jobs done)

I'm pleased I've had a go myself, although there were times when I thought 'why the hell didn't I pay the garage to do it' lol. I'm lucky though, I have my own 26x11ft garage to work in. Anyway, as I said, make sure what your quotes include whoever does it, or you could be in for a heafty extras bill!
