Hi folks,
Is there a special tool to manually turn the engine to get it to TDC? I also cannot see any markings on the wheel, any tips? Hoping not to have to use the old stick down number spark..

cheers

Old stick it is. Nearside front pot. 24mm socket on crank pulley and hope its on the compression stroke

my 3.5 is a 24mm socket and ratchet to wind it over, and the makes are a scale from btdc through to atdc

if your very careful you may be able to hold a wire brush against the pulley while its running ( i did on mine )
if not give it a rub then wind it round more :D

umm so my 24mm socket does not fit, it seems to have something on the front making it deep, maybe for a crank handle?? would they have had that?

Not in my experience, just a muckle thick washer under the hex bolt head from rover p6 to late rrc. I think it is imperial unf thread but 24mm usually fits.
Just a thought, the bolt hasn't gone missing?

Same as mine, got one of these securing the crank pulley:

Rimmer Bros sell them as "Bolt - Crankshaft Pulley - Starting Dog type - Genuine Land Rover" so I guess it's for attempting to start the engine manually?

That's what I've got... And I pinched a hand crank handle out of a series 2... No matter how you do it, impossible to start by hand.
