i am looking at buying a Td5 but some people have warned me that they are more likely to go wrong due to electrical faults etc.
was just wondering if anyone could give me more info and advice it would be great.

I bought one 2-3 months ago. It goes like something of a shovel. Watch out if you are looking at pre 2000 models. They have nylon dowels to locate the head. They melt, the head slips and it's time for a head gasket then. I am just about to get mine done.:mad: Oil in the injector loom is another common fault £38 for a new loom. Throttles like to play up if they get wet. Make sure your ECU is waterproof as it can be vulnerable under the drivers seat. If you do buy one don't forget to factor in costs to put it on a diagnostic when it does go wrong.
 
ha yer i drove my mates the other day and i could not beleive how fast it was!! how could u make sure the ECU was completely water proof? silicon ?? cheers for help!!

silicone or you can get a relocation kit for around about £200

After you have driven a potential purchase, slowly release the radiator cap ( the system WILL be pressurised). Dip a piece of tissue so it just skims the top of the coolant level. If it is oily walk away. The HG is gone.
 
servicing cost are a bit more and a few others things more things go wrong and they are harder to work on but god they are fooking fast
 
had mine 2/3 months now love it to bits (56 plate so think by the time they made mine they'd have got a bit more of it sorted );-)
 
Had mine bout three years now.
Had to have the dowels replaced on mine too :( goin nicely now though had a new head put on that increased bhp goes like the clappers now :D .

Have n't fitted a relocation kit yet.
I always check the depth of puddles on orft roadin sites jess to be sure tho see how far it comes on someone else fust :D :D
 
yer i tend to make sure my mate and his jeep wrangler goes first!! plus i always have to pull him out the whole bloody time!!

Only had mine 6 weeks so can't comment personally, our kid bought one new in 2004 and has put 85k on the clock with all his farriers kit in the back(that anvil weighs a fair bit) and hadn't had a problem until a few months ago when he had to replace ecu.
 
I have 99 td5 75000 miles its the dogs bollocks. One fault in 9 years oil in ECU wiring loom, **** happens. TD5s are fastest smoothest strongest landys out there. Only buy something older if you have massive beard.
 
hahahahaha you may have alot of power if you cant follow me through 4 foot of water you wont be seeing me in your rear view mirror
 
You win! as i was saying TD5's are best landys for ten days in July and deserts. He shouldn't buy a landy anyway he has a mate with a jeep wrangler
 
there crap!! and do summat like 3 mpg even to keep with a standard 90 off road they have to have a 3 inch lift and big tyres
