I have a 2000 td5 with charging problems help please. I changed the alternator last may after the charging light came on everything has been fine up to now. There is no charging light coming on, the battery just goes flat. The only things to come on are the raise vehicle light and I think the hill descent light nothing else. its like the vehicle is just running off the battery. A good battery was fitted today its done about 23 miles before it stopped. Any ideas?.
Any help would be greatly received. Roger

Hello,

Have you checked the battery voltage when it is running to see of the alternator is giving any output?

Have you had any problems with the HDC and SLS systems? Are these lights on all the time?

Cheers

No nothing with the hdc & sls. The only lights to come on are the hill descent and raise the vehicle lights just before it dies. Need to get the vehicle back and look at it. It could be that the alternator has packed up, kind of lucky will be still in warranty like I say only fitted it april/may 2016.

Those warning lights are normally coming on when the voltage drops below 9V so fix the charging issue... check maxi FL1(150A) which has one side connected to the alternator

Double check the tightness of your alternator cables.
I had exactly the same thing last year.
Thought the battery had expired, jumped to buy a new one, fitted it, ran flat in 10 mins driving.
Had a proper look at the cables on the alternator, one had come off and was just touching the post it was supposed to be bolted to. It had then arced its way through he post and cut off most of it!
It had come off, probably because I hadnt tightened the nut properly after refitting the engine.
