Hi all
so I brought my self another discovery it has lasted 2 weeks till now :/ so went to go out yesterday and the car didn't even turn over and had a b on the dash with a cross through it and drivers window stopped working so did the central locking. So I brought a bcu with immobiliser coil and key fob. Put them in everything works electrical wise. But it won't start it cranks over I can hear the fuel pump. Checked all fuses. But nothing. The man I brought the bcu of said I wouldn't need it programmed to get it running was he correct? any help would be appreciated. It's a 99plate td5
Thanks dazz

Not true you need to plug it in with nanocom or similar and 'learn security code' before it will start.

Does the glow plug symbol come on when you try to start it? If not check the 2 earthing points next to the fuse box under the bonnet, had this happen and once I cleaned these 2 earthing points everything was fine.

Yer I checked all earths etc as I thought it might be that but nope. I'm going to try get it plugged in to nanocom and see what happens after that's just got to find someone now :/

Have you checked the inertia switch? Can you hear the fuel pump priming?

Yer you can hear the pump priming. I'm presuming its to do with the new bcu talking to the ecm?? Just need to find someone who can come out and try programming it.

Buy a nanocom unit,it will help you out a great deal, will also save you a fortune in garage bills.

Hi thanks for all the replys just a quick one my d2 has ended up at Landrover to get fixed now there telling me there software carnt reprogram the bcu? Surely they can they are Landrover at the end of the day??

LOL :D I was working on mine last night, found a lovely bodge repair done by a Land Rover dealer on the fuel pipes!
The only thing a main dealer will do for you is present you with a large bill and probably not solve your problem.

Well the won't be getting a penny out of me unless they fix it. But at this rate I don't think they can I spoke to the so called macanic In charge on the phone when he was explaining what was up and I seem to know more about a discovery then he does and the service I'm receiving of of them in not to inpressed with (which my partner thinks is coz I'm young and don't wear a **** and tie) iv seen better service at a back street garage.

Try and get it back off them, and dont pay any bills! I once had a Saab dealer try to invoice me for £70 to "refit" two locking wheel nuts on a two week old 93, he only backed down when I pointed out that they had fitted the nuts and not tightened them up.
Oh and a different Saab dealer smashed up the front wishbone,on another new 93 of mine, attempting to break apart a ball joint!
So you may gather that official dealers rate pretty low in my eyes!

Yer I agree with you there mark. They phoned me up again earlier asking when am I going to pick it up I asked if the so called mechanic changed the immobiliser coil on the ignition to the one that came with the second hand bcu she said no.... Not stating the obvious but that's why you carnt program it coz its immobilised hour later they call back grate news it's all running... So yer £138 later iv got my disco back after telling them what to do. Think it's time to invest in a nanocom would be so much easier. thanks for all the replys helping me out :)

Is it manual or auto?. Recently got a non runner D2 he sold it as a problem with the fuel delivery. Worked on it for 2 hours to discovery it was the auto selection switch had moved it allowed the same symptoms, turning over without trying to fire. Needless to say I now have a D2 with 6 months MoT worth considerably more than the £350 I paid for it.
