Car started ok this morning. Got about 1/2 mile down the road and she died. Now refuses to start! Put key to position 2, all dash lights go out and then 3 amigos (but they are always on anyway!), ACE, rear susp lights and flashing M and S, water temp gauge goes back to the parked place and water temp light on. No sound from fuel pump. Engine will crank but not fire. Called out RAC and he could not get his computer and the car to talk to each other. Removed ECU and red plug was full of oil. Cleaned it with contact cleaner but no difference. 2000 Disco 2 TD5 in Swindon.

Thanks for that. I had guessed that much but wondered why it stopped working, along with all of the other strange indications that started at the same time.

Sounds like a knackered battery or alternater. A friends did the exact same in the middle of Salisbury plain.
Get a multimeter On the battery and see what voltage it is.

Car spent most of the week at the garage. They checked the wiring, found nothing wrong and then one day it just started! The garage said it kept blowing fuse 24. No faults showing on their computer. Was ok for a couple of days and then today it stopped again while wife was driving on busy A road. RAC called out (again), Fuse 24 blown.
Problem is that it's my wife's car and she is now very reluctant to drive it! Any ideas please, apart from petrol and a match!

Had a quick look on RAVE and on 2000 and 2003 MY it's for the auto transmission or ignition coils on V8's?????

Check the underside of the engine bay fusebox for water damage -known issue for multiple electrics failure.

Fuse 24 on Td5 is the feed for the EAT ECU through header C0287(Rave -electrical library-connector views)... make sure there's not some short circuit or wiring issue there...cos if not unfortunately there might be a faulty EAT ECU(The EAT ECU is attached to a protective bracket which is secured to the cabin floor below the LH front seat. A 55 pin connector links the EAT ECU to the vehicle wiring.)

Might be worth while replacing fuel pump relay too. I had similar issues with mine and the relay was main culprit.

Looked at loads of wires and can't find anything! Started ok last couple of times. Wife isn't happy though so it's got to go! Ebay here we come!
